Maybe I’m having a little self-pity party, but perhaps I’m also finally understanding myself a little better.

I’m 25. Just 25. A woman who has spent much of her life growing up quickly, surviving instability, rebuilding herself and learning what independence really means.

I’ve deliberately prevented pregnancy—not because I don’t love children, but because I want to become the kind of woman who can give a child the stability I didn’t always have.

I love children. I’m naturally motherly. My partner loves children too, and as we have more serious conversations about our future, I realise how much security we’re actually building together. His past will always be part of his story, and I’m learning that I don’t have to compete with it. I can simply choose how I show up in the present.

I’ve experienced homelessness, financial struggles, relationships that changed me, starting again and having to rebuild my confidence more than once. Yet I kept working, creating, giving, loving and trying.

Sometimes living in the UK has made me question my independence, finances and future more than I’d like to admit. But maybe that discomfort is also pushing me to create something better.

I don’t want to rush into motherhood because I feel behind. When that chapter comes, I want it to be because I’m ready—not because society says I should be.

I want my future child to inherit a life that already has meaning, love, stability and a mother who has done the work.

So yes, I’m still becoming.

Still healing. Still praying. Still creating. Still rebuilding.

I don’t have my whole future figured out at 25.

And maybe I don’t need to.

Maybe I just need to keep building a life that my future self—and perhaps one day my child—will be proud to inherit. 🤍 by @authenticnicks
