When light becomes a material, design takes on a different dimension.

Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis explores the relationship between colour, light and form through translucent resin, reflective surfaces and sculptural objects. Her work sits at the intersection of art and design, transforming everyday materials into striking visual experiences.

Fashion was never meant to play it safe.

Bad Binch TongTong challenges conventional silhouettes with exaggerated proportions, sculptural volumes and unapologetically theatrical designs. Blurring the boundaries between fashion, art and performance, the label celebrates self-expression in its most daring form.

Because sometimes, making a statement means refusing to be polite.

DILARA FINDIKOĞLU: BEAUTY WITH A BITE

Dilara Fındıkoğlu’s fashion is built on contradiction. Victorian references meet punk, corsetry meets exposed skin, and romantic silhouettes are interrupted by metal, hardware and historical symbols.

Born in Istanbul and based in London, Fındıkoğlu studied at Central Saint Martins before launching her eponymous label in 2016. Her collections draw from Turkish heritage, historical dress, subculture and questions around femininity, sexuality and power.

Her clothes are deliberately confrontational. The beauty is there, but so is the tension behind it.

In collections such as “Not a Man’s Territory,” she explored themes of bodily autonomy and patriarchal control, turning familiar symbols of femininity into something more aggressive and defiant.

At Author, we’re interested in Fındıkoğlu because she treats fashion as more than decoration. Her garments carry attitude, history and resistance — while still being unmistakably designed to be desired.

Beautiful, but never obedient.

Hands down, Heidi Klum’s most bizarre Halloween transformation yet. 🖐️

For Halloween 2026, the supermodel turned herself into a giant, hyper-realistic severed hand, complete with intricate prosthetics, realistic details and bloodied finishes.

Created alongside special-effects artist Mike Marino and his ProRenFX team, the elaborate transformation took hours to bring to life, marking the 25th anniversary of her iconic Heidiween celebrations.

Zanele Muholi uses the camera as a tool of visibility, resistance and remembrance.

The South African visual activist and photographer has spent decades documenting Black LGBTQIA+ lives and communities, creating an archive of identities and experiences that have too often been marginalised or left out of mainstream visual history.

In Somnyama Ngonyama, meaning Hail the Dark Lioness, Muholi turns the camera towards themself. Across the series, clothing, household objects and everyday materials become symbols through which they examine race, gender, beauty, labour, colonial histories and representation.

The photographs are carefully constructed, but their impact comes from what they refuse to hide. Muholi uses their own body to question how Blackness is seen, represented and remembered.

Here, the self-portrait becomes more than self-representation. It becomes documentation. A record. An archive created from within rather than imposed from outside.

The camera doesn’t simply record history. Sometimes, it becomes the place where history is kept.

What does Muholi’s Somnyama Ngonyama series make you think about?
