Thank you to the Amherst County Public Library for hosting another great author festival in their beautiful downtown Amherst location.

It was a pleasure seeing so many local authors, a few familiar readers, and some new faces. And the word is out—I’ve compiled a collection of my short stories into an ebook, Menu of Days. Subscribers will be receiving a free copy soon, and you can get yours now by signing up for my newsletter at EmilyBabbitt.com (link in bio šŸ”—).

I also picked up a few books from Diane Fanning, Betsy Ashton, and Kaylee Umstead—looking forward to adding these to my TBR. by @authoremilybabbitt

My little office—the heart of my creative life (and yes, it doubles as my husband’s gaming zone šŸŽ®). This week, I’m planning next month’s social content (last month’s strategy brought in 80 new followers!), drafting a new blog post, and plotting book two.

What projects are you diving into this week?

It may have been in the 80s today, but that didn’t stop me from making autumn tortellini soup and snuggling up on the couch with my better half to fight the literacy crisis.

What are you reading this week? šŸ“š by @authoremilybabbitt

Happy Gotcha Day to my Buddy Love! šŸ’œ

One year ago today, my husband and brought this sweet boy home, much to Bear's chagrin. He has brought so much love and happiness into our lives over the past 365 days.

When he joined us, he was recovering from a femoral head ostectomy (i.e., major hip surgery), so he could barely walk a quarter of a mile, and his coat was a mess from being shaved for surgery. He still walks with a limp, but he's able to join us for many of our adventures, regularly walks over a mile at a time, and is looking more handsome than ever. He loves running (hopping) too!

Buddy Love loves snuggles, meeting new people, small and cozy spaces, chewy balls, grass, going for walks, wresting with Bear, howling at the mail carrier, and dancing with happiness. He's terrified of thunder, loud noises, sudden movements, and lamb chop stuffies.

Swipe to the last slide to see Buddy the day we brought him home. Bear was very confused, but after a few weeks of very structured integration, they are now thick as thieves and spend most nights wrestling in the living room.

We are so glad this boy gets to spend his golden years with us! The shelter said he was lucky when we took a chance on an older dog (now 7.5) with knee and hip issues, but I think we are the lucky ones. We love you, Buddy Love! by @authoremilybabbitt

The leaves are starting to change! šŸ

My mom and I (and sometimes my husband and brother) have walked 11.5 miles on the High Bridge Trail since July. We have about ten miles left until we reach the actual High Bridge, but we may need to skip a few segments in order to get there to see the fall colors. (Don't worry, we'll go back for them.)

We've been walking/running, but you can also bike or ride your horse. We haven't seen anyone on horseback... yet! šŸŽ

It has been so fun walking through the park with my family, and I'm just so grateful to have them right up the road after being 5 hours apart for 10 years.

Have you walked the High Bridge Trail? Do you have a similar trail system near you that you love to visit? by @authoremilybabbitt

I can’t help that these are the first people who come to mind when reading certain subgenres—it’s not a choice. Thank God for detailed character art.

Sorry for the jump scare on the last slide. 😬

Gotta laugh about something right now, otherwise I might just cry. by @authoremilybabbitt

No makeup. Unbrushed hair. Sweatpants. We aren’t fancy during early morning/late night writing sessions over here.

Thanks to my big brother for the new author headshot!

Anyone else feel a little naughty when they cut out early on a Friday?

Last week, I skipped out of work (with PTO 🤣) to run some errands in town before a friend’s wedding. Stopped by one of my favorite local coffee shops for an afternoon pick me up, and enjoyed the Lynchburg Community Market on a weekday. It feels like a totally different place on Saturdays.

Had a nice chat with some folks, too, and boy, did the entire experience make me feel human again.

One thing I miss about college is how varied my days were. Now, M-F look pretty much the same, but I’m trying to be more flexible and add some whimsy back to my life—one Friday afternoon at a time. by @authoremilybabbitt

It's my birthday month, and it's my goal to finish this behemoth before I enter my next decade.

I've started and stopped reading "Atlas Shrugged" a couple of times since I was about fifteen or sixteen years old, and it's high time I finish it.

It's about 645,000 words. A quick comparison: That's over twice the length of "Kingdom of Ash," the last book in Sarah J. Maas's Throne of Glass series. And it's much less exciting than KOA.

As of October 2, I'm 25% through the book. I've bee working on it for about three days. Think I can finish it by October 29th?

I picked up this book after reading Ayn Rand's novella "Anthem." And while it holds my interest, there's nothing particular about this novel that I'm obsessed with. It's just the principle of finishing something I started so long ago. by @authoremilybabbitt

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve signed with an independent traditional publisher, Spinebreaker Books, for my debut novel, Called from Darkness! šŸŽ‰

It is a paranormal horror story with a romantic subplot that follows a young nurse living in an isolated religious community. She must face the creatures of her nightmares and the beliefs that shaped her in order to save the person she loves the most.

I’ll have more to share in the coming weeks and months, but I couldn’t keep the secret any longer. by @authoremilybabbitt

Just finished Week 6 of my 5K training plan — 6 more weeks until race day.

I haven't run a 5K in nearly 15 years. I ran them all the time in middle and early high school... and then I broke my ankle. I never picked distance running back up and have really struggled to stay active since I graduated from college and started riding a desk.

This year, I laced up my sneakers and started running again. I started small (like, really small), but am working my way up to longer distances. Yesterday, my husband and I ran 2.4 miles during our 3.8-mile run/walk intervals, and I can comfortably run half mile intervals.

Little by little, I'm getting stronger, my endurance is increasing, and I'm enjoying it more. Eventually, I'll be able to finish a 5K without stopping, but until then, it's one step as a time—kind of like writing a book šŸ˜„ by @authoremilybabbitt
