Philadelphia authorities have officially arrested bestselling author P. Wise on 42 counts of Literary Manslaughter after investigators determined she “killed every scene” in all 42 of her books.

Prosecutors allege she showed no mercy to beloved characters, heartbreaking plot twists, and readers’ emotions. The judge denied bail, citing concerns she may write another devastating cliffhanger before trial.

My heartbeat instantly picked up.
Maverick finally stopped texting, picked up the vase, and walked over to Ashley in slow motion.
She tried to crack a smile. “Maverick... hey, I—”
He handed it to her, making her cut her sentence short.
She blinked in confusion but took it. “Um... thank—”
“Open it,” Mav instructed. His tone had changed, sounding serious and deadly.
Ashley looked at me like she wanted help, but I had none to give. I had no clue what was going on and why I was even there.
She finally lifted the lid, and her face went pale instantly.
“W–what is...”
Maverick stepped so close she had to tilt her chin up to look at him. He towered over her with his eyes dark and jaw tight.
“That,” he stated, “is the ashes of the niggas you sent for Channy and me.” He nodded in my direction.
My entire body froze up when I finally realized what it was all about. The attempted robbery.
Ashley dropped the vase, making it shatter at her feet as ashes exploded across the floor like gray dust. Her legs buckled as she grabbed the wall, trembling so hard I thought she’d faint.
“Maverick, please—please—” she started to plead.
“You’d better be lucky you’re still breathing, bitch!” he growled. “Get the fuck out! You’re fired!”
Ashley didn’t even argue. She just bolted out of the door like her life depended on it.
I stood there silently, staring at the pile of ashes spread across the floor. Maverick turned to me with his expression normal again. He was so calm, as if he hadn’t just traumatized a whole human being.
That was the exact moment I realized I was dealing with a maniac, a dangerous, unpredictable maniac. The sad part was that I was falling for him.

“Who the fu*k is that?” Luka asked above the music.
Keema was focused in and seemed stuck.
Moments later, the security unhooked the rope of our section, and in walked Maverick. He moved past a staring Keema and Luka and came straight to me.
He leaned down close to my ear. “You said to do what now?” he asked in a calm tone.
I wasn’t sure whether to be scared, turned on, or both. That move Maverick had just made was loud in so many ways, and I loved that shit.
Without saying a word, I just stood there looking at him. He raised his eyebrow and tilted his head.
“Let’s go,” he demanded as he nodded toward the exit.
I looked at Luka and Keema, who were both staring him down, trying to figure out who he was.
“I have to get them home,” I got on my tiptoes and whispered in his ear.
My driver was on standby, so I knew they were good, regardless. I just told Maverick that to see his response.
“They’ll get home.” He went and picked up my bag. “This yours?” he asked. I nodded, and he handed it to me. “Come on.” He grabbed my hand to head out of the section.
The dancers started swarming us out of nowhere, money signs in their eyes. That told me they either knew who he was or they thought he was like that from the way he looked.
While Maverick and security fought off the girls, I pulled Keema close.
“I gotta go. Take the driver, and I’ll call you,” I told her.
She smirked and nodded. “Love you, boo. Have fun.”
I kissed Luka and was ushered out of the section, then out of the club altogether.
Security got us to Maverick’s Rolls-Royce, and once we were inside, he pulled off immediately with an SUV to the front and another in the back.
We got a few blocks away before I spoke. “So, that’s how you move?” I asked in a humorous tone.
He glanced at me, then turned back to the road and said nothing.
