Here's the trailer for my re-release of "The Abuse of Ashley Collins", set to release on September 3rd, 2026, on Amazon, Audible, and for the first in my career, Spotify! This trailer was made in Unreal Engine 5. Voiceover provided by Beau Thomas (@beauthomasvo). Level design by Baki with some additional tweaks by me. Our Dead Girlfriend 🤯🤎 @authorjonnyathan

Now we all know I am a massive fan of Athan & I always read or listen to his books monthly. This one I had read when it was released a couple of years ago & couldn’t really remember the details.

Well now it’s been enhanced & reworked it was like reading it for the first time again and WOW 🤯 it really was something else!! I loved it 👏🏼🤎

When a group of boys come across a dead body of a girl in a quarry their first instinct is what anyone’s would be…call the cops!

Unfortunately their second instinct was to investigate the body 🫣 They’d never got this close to a female before, nor had they seen a dead body before so this was quite a cool experience for them.

One of the boys takes a little bit more of a liking to the body & puts it out there that maybe they shouldn’t tell just yet, like this could be their girlfriend & people wouldn’t pick on them any more…they could experiment!!

Yeahhh you see where this is going? Things get a little craaaazy & before long they’re in waaaay to deep 😬

This was SAVAGE!! Daniel lost the plot!! But my days that ending 😮‍💨🤯👏🏼 UGH I LOVED it & the fact that the ending was left open like that…is book 2 on the horizon?! 🤭👀

Such a great read!! As always with any Jon Athan book check your triggers before diving in to this brutal beauty! 🤎

Thank you for all of the birthday wishes. I just turned 34 this past weekend. These last few years have just flown by. Looking back at that time, I sometimes feel like I didn’t do enough. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ve slowed down recently when it comes to publishing. I went from monthly novels in 2016-17 to a new release every other month at the start of the 2020s to a 2+ year gap since my last new novel!

Of course, that’s if I focus only on publishing NEW novels. In those last two years, I revisited a few of my older books and published two new novellas—In Mad Hands and PainSpace—that seem to have really resonated with readers. I also started learning Unreal Engine to create original book trailers.

Not too shabby, huh?

And I can also finally announce this: last week, I finished writing the first draft of Novel #59. It’s a MASSIVE book—the type of paperback you can use as a brick. I’ll be going through my first edits soon, so you’ll probably see it out sometime in early 2027. It's a mix of coming-of-age, cerebral, and survival horror. With the hardest work behind me on that, I’m starting to really think about what’s next. Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of story ideas, so I can write until I die.

But… I’m 34 now. I’m wondering if I should start taking bigger swings, y'know? I’ve been lucky enough to have spent the last decade or so with some of the most dedicated readers. You’ve made this whole author dream come true. You’ve made it so that I’ve never had to wait for a publisher—or anyone—to give me an opportunity.

Now, I see viable routes to fulfill my other dreams—things that I’ve been thinking about since I was a kid. I see other doors that look closed but maybe they’re not locked. Does that make sense?

This is going to read more scatterbrain than I wanted it to 😂

The point: When it’s all said and done, I want to be able to say that I at least gave my other dreams a real shot.

So, maybe you’ll see something a little different from me in the next 12-24 months. At the same time, just to be clear, that doesn’t mean I won’t be writing/publishing at all in that time frame. Remember, I can write until I die.

Although the changes aren't as extensive as one of my Author's Enhanced Editions, this book was rewritten from the ground up for this release. I went through and fine-tuned every sentence, restructured a few scenes, improved each line of dialogue, and took the violence to a whole new level. The story is the same, the vibe is still sleazy/grindhouse, but it hits harder than ever.

If you've already read it, I'm sure you'll enjoy this new edition. I'll give you a gamer analogy: It's like the leap in quality from the original Resident Evil 2 on PlayStation to the Resident Evil 2 Remake. 😁 If you check it out on Spotify, please let me know what you thought. This is my first time releasing on that platform, so I hope I didn't mess anything up!

I'm wrapping up on the first draft of my next NEW novel right now. Still a lot to do before it's out, but I'm feeling really good about it. 📖A daughter goes missing in the most inexplicable way. She enters a tube maze on a playground and never resurfaces. The father dozed off, scared shitless, goes in after her when she doesn’t respond to him. Much to his surprise, he enters a labyrinth he cannot understand. Is there a way out? Will he find his daughter?

❇️The suspense and intensity is very much there and this is more psychological horror than physical horror. Creepy, claustrophobic feels all the way. We are used to Athans detailed torture and body horror elements but I think he did well stepping out of his normal MO.

❇️I never want to go to Tube Town or a McDonalds playground or anywhere with a maze of tubes ever again. We’ve all seem em right?

❇️Lucas goes in the tunnels which turns out to be a great metaphor that I will leave a bit ambiguous for fear of giving everything away. There is something off about the playground but Lucas has a lot of personal things to work out as well. He dives into the tunnels and dives into his mind.

❇️I read this in one sitting and I bet you will too. I didn’t really realize where the story was going until it hit me in the face and then it changed the trajectory of my mentality, in a good way. I personally would have loved a little more blood/splatter only because that’s what I have come to expect from this author, but that’s just me. I highly enjoyed this and it’s great for somebody who maybe isn’t into true splatterpunk or extreme horror. Great novella.

The Abuse Of Ashley Collins 🤯 @authorjonnyathan

It’s such an honour to be part of Athan’s ARC team, I love when his ARCS arrive on my doormat 🥹 and wow did this one blow me away! You may recognise the title, but the contents have been reworked! It’s brutal but omg it is so brilliantly done! 😮‍💨

Ashley Collins is your typical teenager, full of attitude, never listens, she’s never in the wrong! Her parents Logan & Jane are tired of it. After Ashley lashes out & strikes her dad across the face he feels like he’s at his wits end. How much more can they put up with from their child?!

He speaks with a friend who reminds him about discipline. “Back in the day” they were taught to behave, ruled with an iron fist, if they stepped out of line then the belt met their backside & they most definitely wouldn’t do it again.

This gets Logan thinking, it’s time for that punishment method to be brought back. Ashley is going to have a stay in the basement, she’s going to face real consequences for her previous actions & she won’t be leaving until she’s “fixed”

🤯 wow 🤯

Like I said this blew me away!! At first I was thinking that Ashley was out of control & disrespectful but my god did she have her reasons and even if she didn’t, that punishment was never ok 😭 I’m so glad she got her ending.

It was so well done, I devoured it within 24hrs & I don’t think I took a real breath from the moment she went to the basement until the very last page 😮‍💨😅

This is exactly why Jonny is one of my ultimate favourite authors & always will be! 😌 Releasing 3rd September, get it added to your TBR 🤎

I first read The Abuse of Ashley Collins by Jon Athan in its original edition (pictured on the left), and I loved it. So when I heard he was releasing a new enhanced edition (pictured on the right), I was curious what could possibly be added to a story I already knew the bones of.

Apparently, a lot.

The rewritten edition is bI0od!er, more brutal, and the dialogue is so damn good. As always, I got lost in another immersive Athan experience. I enjoyed the original, but this enhanced edition is absolutely my favorite version. It’s more emotionally developed, while still keeping everything that made me love the story in the first place.

Athan has always been incredibly good at making you hate certain characters, then slowly forcing you to see them differently. Nothing is simple, nobody is completely innocent, and the emotional weight of what happens to Ashley comes from so much more than the violence itself. The isolation, betrayal, manipulation, and complete loss of safety make this story genuinely uncomfortable to read. Ashley’s parents are sick of her behavior, and she needs to learn. How far are they willing to go?

The paperback and hardcover editions will be available September 3, 2026, and the audiobook is coming soon.

This re-release is a total re-write, *but* the changes aren't as pronounced as one of my signature Author's Enhanced Editions. It follows the same beats as the original story, but the writing has been improved on a technical level, the dialogue feels more authentic, and the violence is more visceral/impactful. It's definitely bloodier and more emotional, but I tried to keep the original's sleazy atmosphere.

In other words, it'll feel like a fresh experience while respecting the past.
