What kind of “Indian” do I look like? I was actually born in Sri Lanka but am now an adopted South African and such a nuanced classification will take too much time to explain so often assumed as Indian in the ever present stereotypes we tend to abide by. So I often experience some hilarious cultural assumptions from other people about me in South Africa and of course even more apparent when I travel overseas. What funny stereotypes do you experience when you travel and meet people? #stereotypes #culturalexchange #southafrica #comedy #southafricanheritage by @authorvijev

It was a honour and pleasure meeting South Africa’s prolific Sci-Fi and Fantasy author @nerinedorman for the Winter Mage launch at @exclusivebookshydepark and @miraripress. I got a taste of her style of writing and her editing process and certainly some good advise when writing your own book. She’s already working on her 7th book! If you’re a Nerine Dorman fan, hit up the comments and let’s see where you’re all based in? #scififantasy #booklaunch #author #southafricanauthors by @authorvijev

It’s time for Swordslords! So glad I made it on time for the event at @eb_cresta to meet the author @rhettsinnema and @mars.duplessis from @miraripress, the South African publisher bringing local Fantasy and Sci-Fi to the world. I love this community and seeing so much passion only makes me more excited to write more in this genre. No need to speculate how passionate this community is and that’s a great sign for authors, just like me writing Sci-Fi. #scififantasy #booklaunch #southafricanauthors by @authorvijev

A place to heal and read books. Nestled in Buffelspoort near Magaliea lies @thabaapienatureretreat. I stayed here for a few magical days and they have this beautiful cabin with a place to relax, with a wide range of books from the atlas of the universe to some wisdom of Tao. With the company of the resident cat Mysterio, it’s a perfect place for a relaxed vibe. #relaxation #retreat #books #library #healing by @authorvijev

Here’s a nifty little book shop that I discovered in Blairgowrie Plaza. It’s called Jenny’s Bookshop and they have a wide selection of used books. I went to my section of Science Fiction of course and they do have some good classics for you to check out. Some of them for as little as R70. My favourites from Arthur C. Clarke to Margaret Atwood. You can sell your old books to them as well. #scifi #bookshop #usedbooks #randburg #southafrica by @authorvijev

Don’t ever judge a book by its cover! Unless it’s good? Good book cover designs are underrated and does help capture the essence and feeling of the book so they do matter. Sometimes. Especially if you’re looking for an author you have never heard of before even if they are well known to others. Collector’s items as well. Here’s my favourite Sci-Fi book covers I spotted while at @exclusivebooks

Did you know there’s fantasy dragons and sci-fi dragons? Most, if not all the dragons we see are from Fantasy (created with magic) but where’s the sci-fi dragons? The ones where a quantum gravity pulse from a nearby magnetar ruptured the on-board iguana DNA on a remote space mission, mutating it into Elod-X, the Black Hole eating Space Dragon? #scifi #fantasy #dragons #storytelling #fiction by @authorvijev

How do you as a writer, earn a living? What else do you to sustain your life so you still have the time and energy to keep writing? And when did writing start to make enough to do it full time? #writers #costofliving #writingcommunity #writerlife by @authorvijev

I went frolicking in Rustenburg for a shoot and found this small cute bookstore called Boxes and Books! Can you guess what they sell? Of course you guessed right. Boxes and books! They sell used / secondhand books and the boxes are for you when you need to move and if that means transporting your books, that can work too! If you are ever here, please do support the owner, Hanneli. She was camera shy but you can find her inside and knows her stuff. #bookshop #rustenburg #indiebooksellers #usedbookstore by @authorvijev

I fear no one else but myself. For I have the power to wield the journey of misery or magic, all paved with the same stone. #writerslife #writer #author #writersjourney #journey by @authorvijev

The Wordsworth Bookstore in Menlyn Maine. Nifty bookstores are my vibe and friendly staff who know their stuff. It’s like they are worth their words? (Sorry!) Thank you Martin and Kea for showing me around this awesome bookstore and having an in-depth discussion about sci-fi. #bookshop #bookstore #pretoria #menlynmaine by @authorvijev

So if you combine romance with fantasy you get romantasy. What do you get if you combine sci-fi with romance? #scifi #romance #romantasy #writing #fictionwriter by @authorvijev
