POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Loop 306 officially turned 1 on Saturday! 🥳 and now that I have these incredible new headshots from @aesthetic_griff, it’s time for a little reintroduction!

My name is Emily and Loop 306 is my chainstitch embroidery studio. The name is a reference to a roadway in my hometown of San Angelo, TX, a place I still love to return to. I am now based in Philadelphia, a city that continues to delight, mystify, and fascinate me on the daily.

I first learned about chainstitch embroidery when @ftlonesome presented at @iconconference in 2016. I got my first machine (a vintage Singer) in 2023, started Loop 306 in 2024, & bought my second machine (a new Chareco) this summer in 2025. I’m also moving into my first official studio space (517) in @buildingbok on Nov. 1! None of this would have been possible without all the opportunities that have come my way in the past year. I am so thankful for each & every one!

I have a background in illustration and hope that next year brings even more chances for me to fully employ that. Chainstitching has allowed me to continue to be creative while also working through feelings of burnout & exploring what “my style” really means these days. I am very happy to be spending so much more time making tactile pieces and less time on my laptop & iPad—it’s cool to see my creativity come out in different ways when I’m working with my hands.

What else about me? I’m a semi-pro roller skater, part of the duo @rocksteadyrollers with @lovecitymo 👯‍♀️ We also play in a circus band together called @serpentidifesta (I play fiddle). I love to hike and don’t do it enough, and I ran my first half marathon this year with plans to do many more. My dad used fountain pens during his 40+ years long career and he’s passed that niche interest on to me (ask me about my growing collection 🤓). I’ve recently become a Real Baseball Fan™️ and love the @phillies even when they break my heart. And I am so very grateful for the supportive creative community I’ve found here in Philly! ❤️

Thanks for following along & I hope to share more exciting updates from Loop 306 as we enter year 2!

Loop 306, chainstitch embroidery by Emily Joynton, is LIVE! 🎉 I’ve been hard at work the last several months putting together website pages, branding, examples of what I can do, and a fun way to advertise my business (via this @bigbudpress jumpsuit) and am so excited to officially share Loop 306 with you all!

As a new chainstitch embroidery studio based in Philly, I’m ready to do live stitching at events (retail activations, corporate retreats, weddings), take on large commissions (bridal party swag, team jackets, branded work wear) and bring your individual ideas to life (personalized children’s clothing, back patch for a treasured denim jacket, your next performance outfit). Check out the Iinks in my bio—that’s where you’ll find even more info as well as a booking & commission form to fill out if you want to talk about an idea or hire me for a project.

As I get this off the ground, a save, share or comment on this post would be very much appreciated ❤️ and make sure to give @loop.306 a follow—that’s where you will find exclusively chainstitch content!

I see chainstitching as an extension of my practice as an illustrator and am really looking forward to where it will take me. You can follow along on this journey by subscribing to my Substack, Sketches & Stitches!

Thanks to everyone who has been so helpful & encouraging as I’ve picked up chainstitch embroidery ❤️ here’s to the next chapter!

I’m starting a newsletter called Sketches & Stitches! I’ve been journaling consistently for the first time in my life and wanted a place to share some of those thoughts as well as updates on my life & career. So just ahead of the official launch of my chainstitch embroidery business (happening tomorrow, Oct. 25!), I’m putting out this newsletter as a way to get more insight into what’s going on with me, upcoming & ongoing projects in both illustration & chainstitch embroidery, where I’ll be live stitching next, as well as extra tidbits like what I’ve been listening to, watching, reading, or playing in my free time.

Think of this quarterly-ish publication as a way to go far beyond the surface level of what I post here. Scroll through these photos to get a sense of the moments & stories I can dive into with the longer format of a newsletter. I’d love it if you’d follow along by subscribing through the link in my bio 🙏🏼 and thanks!

I’m bringing my chainstitch embroidery machine to @iconconference in Baltimore this year for the Roadshow! This will be my 4th ICON but first time participating in the Roadshow and I’m really excited to be a vendor 😍

I’ll be doing live chainstitching—you can BYO item or buy something from me to get stitched with your name, initials or one of my flash designs! I’ll have bandanas, mini totes, and bag charms available for purchase & personalization.

Want to get your ICON tote stitched? I’ll have bags you can use to shop the Roadshow in the meantime while yours is getting customized!

The Roadshow is July 16, 7-11 PM at BBOX in the Gateway Building on the @marylandinstitutecollegeofart campus. Pre-registration to attend is required - link for that is in bio. See you in Baltimore! ✌🏼🦀✏️

There have been so many wonderful things about having a studio at @buildingbok but this was extra special—I got to design & chainstitch the Spring 2026 Open Studios flyer! The combination of illustration, design, and stitching was so rewarding, really putting my style into the work and creating this flyer in an unconventional way. You definitely realize the difference between making digital work and making something tactile when then it needs to fit into different formats and also translated into Spanish 😅 but it was honestly a fun challenge and I’m so happy with the end result. I feel very appreciative of @kelleygarrard and the @scoutltd team believing in me to make this piece! 💚

Come out to Bok on May 8th for all the fun that is Open Studios! Check out the flyer in person to see the finer details, and stop by studio 517 to get something stitched for yourself or just to say hi. Let me know if I’ll see you there!

Thanks to @beawalling for helping me finish the edges to get this piece ready to hang ☺️

Loop 306 got to stitch with the Phillies this week! 😍⚾️ we customized Lululemon belt bags for guests at the preview party celebrating renovations in the stadium, including this New Era team store. And it was a blast!

This event checked off so many bucket list items for me: stitching for Phillies players, exec team members, and their guests, working with an entire team of chainstitchers & assistants, being in the same room as Phillies sports legends…!!! It was an incredible night ❤️

It was truly a joy to work with everyone involved ☺️ Massive thanks to my Loop 306 team and to @thisiskatalyst for believing in me to take this on—I am so thankful for your partnership! I’m thrilled to finally be back in baseball season so LET’S GO PHILS! ❤️

Taking another moment to reflect on the standout moments of 2025, like when I stitched at Citizens Bank Park during a Phillies game! @guess invited me to join this event in collaboration with @paytonsartain and her podcast @ntsbyps. This was absolutely a highlight of my year—hoping for more exciting opportunities like this in 2026 😍⚾️

Huge thanks to @ofgrammatology for filming many of these clips, editing this whole reel, and supporting me along the way 🙏🏼❤️

I am really proud of what I accomplished in 2025. This was my first full year of chainstitching as Loop 306 and this career pivot has been life-changing. I don’t think the feeling of disbelief that a successful, financially stable, and creatively fulfilling freelance career was possible for me will ever disappear completely, but this last year has done a very good job to convince me otherwise. I gained over 15 new clients (many of which are national brands!) and I was booked for 26 live stitching gigs where I was paid hourly, majorly contributing to the level of stability I achieved by December. I bought a second chainstitch machine and started renting a shared studio in @buildingbok. I also went to Hawaii, ran my first half marathon, met new (to me) family members, and managed to squeeze in a few fun illustration projects along the way. It’s honestly felt like a great year and I’m so grateful!

I always write a big long list of goals for the new year in January that I will inevitably forget about, only to unearth much later in the year. I like this approach to goal setting - I don’t put a lot of pressure on myself so that I’m pleasantly surprised by what I end up achieving and I don’t feel bad about the goals I forgot about or didn’t reach. This time around I have more specific ideas of what I’ll be listing as my goals - working a gig that requires air travel, making my first banner, collaborating with specific clients, maybe doing a triathlon? - while still taking the same approach of not doggedly tracking what I achieve throughout the year. But I do like having something to reach for. It really helps me stay on track, explore new techniques or experiences, and grow bit by bit.

I’m really excited for 2026. May we all find success & prosperity in the new year!

👻 TRICK or TREAT? 🎃 When the veil is thin, a ghostly band appears from the fog playing somber tunes of the undead. We took to the streets last night, strolling around Philly’s Callowhill neighborhood with our spooky repertoire. Best way to celebrate the season! 🎻🎷🥁

So thrilled to finally share this wrap gift I stitched for the new @hbomax show Task! These patches are a tribute to the show’s Delco setting, riffing on the iconic vintage @wawa logo with twists specific to the show. I made these patches over a year ago and I’m both pleased to see how my skills have grown while also being pretty dang happy with how these turned out with the amount of experience I had at the time. I was just a baby chainstitcher back then 🥹

Getting to make these for the Task camera crew is all thanks to @sweetmarlena (who did Grassroots Casting) suggesting me to @ttdobbertin (A Camera 1st AC for Task) ❤️ I feel very lucky to have these guys as friends and their willingness to connect me to their cool work!

Manny and I have been absolutely hooked by this show—everything from the Delco accent to the expert storytelling to the incredible score (by @dandeacon!) is so good. I’d recommend it regardless of my connection but am so grateful to be a small part of it!

So excited to debut my first bandana design! Since starting chainstitching, I’ve wanted to offer an original bandana when I do pop-ups so that both the stitching and the canvas represent my work. It feels like the perfect way to integrate my two skills: illustration and chainstitch embroidery. I love how they turned out and hope this is the first of many!

The inspiration for this design is pretty simple and follows the personal narrative theme of a lot of my work—pulling from the items I encounter most days when rooting around in my bag for a pen, plus a border inspired by the charm bracelet I got as child that demands to be filled with more @jamesavery charms (some featured here on the bandana).

You can buy this at my pop-up this Saturday at @anothercorner_co! I’ll be there with my bandanas and other items, doing live stitching alongside @funhousestudiophl & @emilyburtner who will also be vending. Come support our tiny band of Philly fiber artists! Will we see you there?? Tell us in the poll! 💖
