I did it... I graduated!! ❤️ With a 1st Class Honours degree in Make-Up for Media and Performance! 💄

Words can’t express how much this day genuinely means to me, especially after how challenging university has been. 4 long years. I started out studying Animation, but it just wasn’t the right path for me. As much as I love illustrating and storytelling, it didn’t fit. Then halfway through the year, like being struck by lightning my brain just screamed, “You need to be doing makeup!” 📣

I’d already spent years experimenting with makeup and wigs through being a dancer and cosplay, creating dramatic looks because I loved it. I always saw it as just a hobby and never imagined doing it professionally. Looking back, I’m amazed it took me so long to realise. My college tutors hinted at it, my friends and family hinted at it... everyone genuinely seemed to see it before I did! 😂

Changing was scary, but I waited to finish 1st year of Animation so I could switch to Makeup..and it was the best decision I ever made. The longer route of Uni was absolutely worth it.

Not only did I find my calling but I also met the love of my life when I started over. I honestly don’t know how I got so lucky. He’s been my biggest supporter, and I’m so excited for everything our future holds together! 💞

I also met my awesome friend @abi.m.makeup through the course, and I’m so grateful we got to experience all the highs and challenges together and be there for eachother.💛

I’ve learnt so much, had amazing opportunities, and discovered a real passion for wig making, fashion, film and TV. I’m grateful for every talented friend and person I’ve met and worked with! ❤️

I’m also so grateful to my mum, dad and my brother Martin for their love throughout the whole journey. 💖

Now onto the next part! I’ll be freelancing, gaining even more experience, and I’m so excited that opportunities are already rolling in!🤫

I’ll also be reviving my illustration business, @autumnartistryillustrations on the side, where I’m currently writing and illustrating my very first children’s book and getting back to my other set of brushes! 🎨🖌️

Queen Medusa at the Masquerade (swipe for more ->) 🐍👑
Part of my Final Major Project at @makeupaub

Inspired by a fusion of Regency royalty and Greek mythology. Reimagining the iconic figure of Medusa within an elegant Regency-era setting.

The centrepiece is a custom-designed caged wig featuring layered braids that mimic the scales and textures of snakes. The design incorporates a variety of braiding techniques, including 5-part braids, rope braids, and fishtail braids. Sculpted snake heads were created using needle felting techniques, freeze spray, and foam clay bases to bring the serpentine forms to life. Inside the wig sits a petrified / statue face playing into Medusa’s powers (with that extra nod to Greek statues) and made to look like the snakes are slowly consuming one of her victims. 🪮

The look is completed with polished, airbrushed Regency-inspired makeup applied over a squalane base, drawing inspiration from Erika Ökvist’s makeup techniques for Bridgerton.

Alongside the wig sits a masquerade mask constructed entirely from hair. The piece was set using got2b Glued and Kryolan Sealer, with aluminium wire woven through the braided handle to provide structure and support.

A contemporary interpretation of Medusa, blending mythological symbolism with Regency elegance.

Hair by @howsyourheadwigs played a huge role throughout the process and I can’t thank them enough for letting me feature their company’s products in my work! 👑 💇🏻‍♀️

Inspired by @poppylouiseedesigns ‘s grandfather’s time as a fireman, this look explores heritage through contemporary workwear. Shortlisted for the Liberty London competition, the project featured a womenswear boilersuit created using Liberty fabrics and finished with reflective hi-vis tape, reimagining traditional workwear with a modern perspective.

‘PINK IS A WEAPON’ 🎀 - A series of photos and graphics for my punk/goth editorial project ‘Specialist Practise’. Where I designed a custom 4-part wig lace construction with intricate hand-knotted synthetic hair, coloured using fabric dyes! 🫟 The look involved cutting and styling with a middle parting, straightened hair, sectioned off fringe trimmed in a V-shape, and feathered/layered ends. Finished with a heart-shaped half-updo style at the back, freeze sprayed to the crown. Polished with my new @got2b wax stick to slick down the scalp. 🩷

A bold, editorial makeup look where colour becomes power. Saturated teal and turquoise eyes are electrified with vivid magenta, creating an expressive, almost ceremonial impact. The skin is radiant and unapologetically real, enhancing texture rather than concealing it. Strong brows and dramatic lashes frame the eyes with authority, while deep wine-toned lips ground the look in elegance. Paired with vibrant adornment, the overall effect is confident, cultural, and commanding beauty as presence, not decoration.

Claire Cooper, BA (Hons) Makeup for Media & Performance | Level 6

Claire Cooper is redefining beauty through drama, texture, and storytelling.

For her final-year project, Claire designed Fashion Victim, a character concept for a contemporary fashion runway show inspired by gothic horror, couture, and performance. Her creation fused wig artistry with costume design, constructing a look from fabrics, materials, and found objects to blur the line between the discarded and the divine.

Her passion for wig making and postiche drives her work, a craft she describes as limitless, where hair becomes sculpture and storytelling collides with fashion and theatre.

Claire has collaborated with AUB’s Costume department and worked on professional productions such as I, Joan, gaining first-hand experience behind the scenes in theatre.

Her advice? “Explore and collaborate in any way you can. Experiment all the time in any spare moment you get.”

⚠️trigger warning for fake blood⚠️
To kick off all the Halloween vibes, here’s a theatrical horror prosthetics makeup design I created earlier this year! Also created in aid for a VFX project! ☠️🎃🩸
The horns were the central feature of this look. Created with silicone which was then applied and blended. I then painted the rest of the look using @kryolanofficial supra colour greasepaints , my ‘Gothic’ alcohol activated palette, finished with fake blood jelly from @makeuprevolution ! 💄✨
