My grandma is 81 and disagrees. She says, “you should ALWAYS be hungry to learn and be better, not just when you’re young”.

These are the children of shopkeepers in a small community in the southwestern Gobi Desert of Mongolia. They were completely fascinated by my camera and I, so, of course, we hung out for a bit!

I showed them how to use my camera and encouraged them to photograph whatever caught their eye. I wasn’t expecting much, but when I looked through the photos later, I was actually amazed. Some of my favorite images from the entire trip weren’t taken by me, they were taken by these kids.

Getting to share my love of photography with them and see the way their faces lit up was amazing.

I’ve found myself thinking of these kids almost everyday since I’ve been home. Just pure kindness and joy. Thank you for capturing these beautiful photos through your eyes🧘‍♀️❤️

So many fun and wild moments still to shareeee!!! This was crazy and something I normally wouldn’t do. Yet, we learned exchanging snuff is a sign of friendship and respect and would be disrespectful to turn down. So of course, I had to try when offered.

Spent yesterday at the DMZ which is the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea.
-
The highlight was meeting a North Korean defector/escapee. She shared the story of leaving the North with her son and husband in a fishing boat. They left with one family photo, and 3 vials of poison. It is better to die than get caught escaping. She couldn’t tell her mother or any other family members she was leaving. Families of defectors are tortured for 3 generations. She lives here grateful for her free life, but lives in pain not knowing if her family is alive or dead. Her strength was astonishing.

We travelled through the underground tunnels the North dug to invade the South. Strict no phone policy in the tunnel unfortunately.

We then went to the observatory where you have a clear view of North Korea. VERY strict no photo policy there. I may have snuck a few. I’m going to wait until I’m back in the states to share. Truly one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had. by @avacumello

When I buy a home in San Diego, barefoot walking track is first on the priority list. I literally felt the circulation in my feet get better.
