This piece is called « collective conscious « and is based on Carl Jung’s Map of the Mind. The rainbow of colors represent the world which flows through us, like water, blending and bleeding the lines between what we perceive as self and what we perceive as other. When you compare the painting to some models of Jung’s mind map, you will see how different brushstrokes concert my relationship to each area of the mind

A beautiful artist talk from @xavierrkelley @otis_quaicoe and @13thluck at the @industryonefoundation !! this piece is about the women’s revolution in Iran and the power and inspiration that this brave feminist captures. The painting style is inspired by the polish and glow of an Edward Hopper for a American 1920’s feel and a few expressive flicks of paint to accentuate the glow of the flame. these flicks were inspired by @colete.martin ‘s recent piece: ´Light Moves’ I found at the @thepurpledoorpdx. ´Light Moves’ uses seemingly thousands of tiny flicks to create a veil. The combination of highly rendered style with a few bold expressive marks creates even more emotion in the already intense act, strengthening the feeling of the the piece! Hope you enjoy this piece! “fuck em’” ( acrylic on canvas 20"x15.5") This expressive acrylic piece is based on an image from a recent trend in which women burn photos of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei with cigarettes. I find this act of protest incredibly brave and respectable. Burning photos of Iran’s supreme leader is an illegal and dangerous act in Iran. Under Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the women of Iran are systemically oppressed. Women can be flogged for not wearing mandatory hijab, child marriage is legalized: “Marriage allowed for girls at age 13, younger with permission of father and judge”(find "atrocities against girls" link in my bio). Women must obtain permission from their husbands to obtain a passport or travel outside of the country. However it was not always this way. Many women in Iran were liberated before Khamenei came to power and began enforcing a harsh religious ruling. Khamenei and many others have used the guise of religion for too long to abuse the women of Iran. The issue is incredibly complicated but one thing I’m sure we can all agree on: it’s great to see these brave women fighting back against a system that’s hurting them. I decided to commemorate their bravery to remind myself of the importance and beauty of standing up to abusive powers. I’ve also linked some resources in my bio which I found especially helpful when learning about the topic. #womanlifefreedom by @avaskyart
