This is Aven’s family posting. Aven had a crash last week toward the end of a Whistler trail he’s ridden many times. He landed weird on his head and neck, and has a cervical spine and spinal cord injury. He felt the cord injury happen. He had a couple other riders with him, they called patrol, one went for help, and the other stayed with Aven and talked with him and helped him be as comfortable as possible. Bike Patrol got there quickly given the location, and Patrol and Whistler SAR got him out in a difficult extrication, eventually long lining him out at dusk. He was transferred to a medevac helicopter and went straight to the hospital in Vancouver. We can’t express enough how grateful we are to the riders with Aven, WBP patrol, and the SAR team that got him out of there in a difficult and risky extrication. As well as the medevac crew that flew through dusk to Vancouver. Aven had a cervical spine fracture dislocation and his cord was compressed at the injury. He had surgery in the morning and his bone was stabilized and the cord decompressed. He is still on a ventilator with a breathing tube but we are hopeful in the next few days he can get off the ventilator. Many thanks to his care team who are amazing… There is too much to say with a limit so please read the rest in the comments. #aventhing #aventhings #irideforaven by @aven.elsberg

Today’s Tuesday Takeover brings us @aven.elsberg giving us a run through on his Bowhead Reach setup! We first met Aven in July 2024 at @crankworx Whistler at our try it day. It’s awesome to see how much Aven has progressed and pushed his limits over the last couple years on his Bowhead. From that first test ride to leading party laps back in Whistler. 🤘🏼 Aven has been riding bikes most of his life and we are honoured to have such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Ambassador on Team Bowhead. Check him out on Instagram to see more! #amtb #bikesetup #whistler #adaptivemtb #bowheadreach taken in Whistler Mountain Bike Park by @aven.elsberg

I have been keeping this somewhat on the downlow because I wasn't sure if it was gonna work out. In mid August, I moved to the @universityofutah in Salt Lake City, to start my freshman year. My accident happened on August 3rd, 2023, just a week before I was supposed to move to Salt Lake City for school. Because of this, attending to the @universityofutah has been a dream of mine ever since. Moving here was big change for me because I went from having caregiving all day and living with my parents, to living alone with caregiving only in the mornings and going to bed. I also was starting university, which is the first time I am going to school since before my accident. My first day of classes was also my first night alone since my accident, and also the longest I had gone during the day without any help. Navigating being alone with starting school was tricky at the first, but now that everything has settled down it feels really good to be here. In addition, the wheelchair community and adaptive sports here are amazing. There are some of the best trails I have ridden on my @bowheadcorp here. by @aven.elsberg

I have been loving my new @dharcoclothing adaptive pants. They include features like knee padding to protect my knee’s while putting my legs in my @bowheadcorp along with added zippers that make it easier to take them on and off, and for other medical reasons + less seams to protect your skin while sitting all day. #paralyzed #quadriplegic taken in Whistler Blackcomb by @aven.elsberg
