I would like to announce that I will be apart of WTVA 9 News station in Tupelo, MS. I am excited to start my job as a Reporter/ Multi-Media Journalist (MMJ). I am happy to be apart of the team and I can’t wait to get to know Tupelo!

A transparent moment✨:
I just wanted to give some reaffirmation to all those post graduate students out there. I want you all to know that it is okay to not have a job straight out of undergrad or graduate school. It is okay that you went home to stay with your parents to save money. It is okay to work a job while looking for something in your field. It is okay to wonder where God is leading you. Never question it, but know He always has what is best for you in store!

My God is amazing and I am BEYOND blessed to have obtained this position at the station! You all know I LOVE sports and I aim to one day become a sports broadcaster. This stepping stone here is establishing my steps as the Lord has ordered. I aim to obtain as much knowledge as I can! I aim to stay positive on my journey. I aim to stay close to God as well! I am paving the way for women like me and I hope others after me do the same!

I’m honored to share that I was nominated for the annual Media Representative of the Year award by Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi. The nomination came from Phill Gann, former Constable and current board member of Crimestoppers.

I’m proud to say I was named a finalist and last Wednesday, I took home the award. This recognition was given for my media coverage, hard work, and dedication in supporting Crime Stoppers’ mission, which they say has been instrumental to the program’s success.

On Saturday, December 20, I was truly honored to be recognized as an honoree at the 2025 Pink Ice Gala in Tupelo, Mississippi. This event was hosted by the Pearls of Prosperity Foundation (P.O.P.), Incorporated, in conjunction with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Nu Sigma Omega Chapter.

When I received the email back in October notifying me that I was selected as an honoree, it stated that this recognition was for my dedication, leadership, and service and for making a lasting impact on the community that reflects the spirit of excellence and empowerment this organization uplifts. That alone humbled me beyond words.

I want to take a moment to thank the Nu Sigma Omega Chapter for even thinking of me and speaking my name in rooms I wasn’t even in. What I do in the Tupelo community has never been for recognition, but simply because of the goodness God placed in my heart. Still, it feels amazing to be seen and acknowledged from afar. I truly enjoyed the event! Thank you all so much🫶🏾!

Thank you to my friends and family who were there to support me. It means more than you know🥹🫶🏾. Most importantly, I give all thanks to the Most High. He connected every dot and had the story written long before I could see it here in Tupelo. As the scripture says, “I will give thanks to You, LORD, with all my heart,” and I truly mean that.

God has blessed me in my journey in news to be known as more than just a face on television, but as someone who genuinely cares about a community I’m not even from and that speaks volumes. Thank You, God. Thank You. I can’t wait to see what You have in store for my future. I pray I continue to have the best years of my life! by @averyhilliard.tv
