Act XLV: The Becoming 🎂🦂 45 years, same compass, better bearings. I’ve built, broken, rebuilt… not always perfectly, but always with passion. I’ve kept my word even when it cost me, worn my heart on my sleeve, and poured my whole self into every single endeavor. This is both my gift and my flaw. It is at the uncompromised core of who I am. I’ve tried to be kind without being soft, and strong without losing heart. Half-pedal was never an option 🏎️💨 The road has been uneven, but it is unequivocally mine. My Father @keithmiddlemas passed away on July 1st, one week ago today. I think both of us always had a little too much to say in life... But anything Ive churned out over the last five days just seems to cheapen the moment for me so I’ll keep this concise. Years ago, I asked him what he hoped I’d remember about him when he was gone. His answer was “I tried my best.” He was a master stonemason and artist, laying more than 4,000 tons of stone with his bare hands. A great friend to many. A literary romantic. And a great father. He lived deep in the woods, far from the noise, but he built a world that echoed with thought and craft. Everything he touched, he shaped with care. Even the silences felt deliberate. Funny thing... I shot this video maybe six years ago and called it “Papa Goes Home.” Kind of fitting now. I thought I had another 10 years of his sermon… but alas… life isn’t a movie and the third act doesn’t always play out, Hollywood… So here I’m left with more various b-roll shots like the ones above in the can as well as about 3 hours of interviews I did with him, trying to cut them down into something that even begins to represent who he was. Hard to bottle lightning, you know… But what’s stayed with me most these past few days are the 250 or so candid clips I have... him cracking jokes, rambling about life, love, and the pursuit of happiness. I’ll be sharing more of that soon. I wish I had him here to ask him what music he’d want behind this one above.... Something better than the cheesy track I used, probably... but alas, it is what it is. In this video, you’ll see his handwriting, an epitaph he wrote for himself about ten years ago. I pulled it in as-is, exactly how he scribed it. I miss him already, and it’s only the beginning. If you knew my father and wanna reach out for any reason, please feel free to DM me. by @avi_cohen

#HappyMothersDay to, not only the center of my universe but the very best empath ever manifested, period. Every bump along the road I’ve ever felt has not only been felt by you only magnified, but equally and quickly softened with just one soothing phone call from you just there after... advice, strategy and a game plan in tow. You are my rock, my lighthouse and my center. But you needen’t worry ma, because if it makes any sense, I am you... Only, a newer model taught by you to be a braver, more courageous, pokier armored bearing version of the Incredible, loving, communicative, accountable, tenacious, emotionally responsible, fine specimen you’ve always been. You Mama are a rare breed, You have literally sacrificed everything to graciously give me every tool I will ever need to be an incredible man and lead an even more incredible life. As the years continue to pass, I would love you to remember Just one thing, and that is this: without the bitter... the sweet wouldn’t be so sweet.... and that no matter what happens In the short term It will ultimately work itself out with elegance, poise and abundance in the long-term. Graciously let go of some of the wait you bear in your children’s happiness. You needn’t worry about your boy and the rest of your flock, as we have all been equipped by you to lead full, rich, fulfilling, meaningful, happy lives. Your job here has been done with more purpose, precision and focus than anyone I will ever meet. And for that I am forever in debt to you. I love you more than you’ll ever know. Time is our most valuable asset, better yet our most valuable commodity... Spend it wisely. Choose who you spend it with, wisely. It's the one thing that no matter how diligent, cunning, accoladed, successful, or wealthy one becomes more cannot be leveraged, and once it's gone that's it one can never get more. However, if you glance above here and squint one eye you will see that fate was not only temporarily cheated but bottled up and served cold 🥃 Here for you, my fine specimens is a glass filled with the very compound, of the fibers my heart is woven from. Believe it or not, this took me and 4 others a cumulative 32 days to manifest this 243 seconds. Simple but complicated. 🎂🦂40 trips around the sun☀️today️ & just starting 2 find my voice. That husky texture in my vocalcords, emanating accountability, loyalty, & powerfully refined follow thru. As my time left here begins 2 slip thru my fingers, assets I've come 2 understand, best spent bringing good partnership, plutonic & romantic alike in 2 my gravitational pull🪐I've always thought it, a vanity project 2 celebrate myself on this day, as there is so much greatness transpiring in this giant world. However, I've also felt it a polarizing time 2 look back & reflect on the progress I've manifested, over the last year. This coming decade 4 me promises 2 be an interesting 1, a more meaningful 10 years 2 come. As I ripen on the vine/amass the intellect 2 focus on the macro & the fibers that weave symbiosis here present w/ you @ THIS very moment (our only moment promised) all the bullshit falls away & said partnerships become inherently futile. Being accountable/selfless w/ those few people we let in2 our orbit is 1 of the realest things we can do as humans. It's hard 2 be vulnerable, it's even harder 2 manifest said vulnerability in 2 unadulterated partnership. I have only recently started trying 2 work this notion in2 the mortar of the foundation I've been laying over the last 4 decades. A foundation th@ is almost done, the mortar is almost dry. This is THE BEGINNING. Just coming in2 a place where I can provide some value 4 U raw & unbridled. The beginning of u bearing witness 2 me in all my authenticity, the kind of me U deserve & me, symbiotically coming in2 a place where I can receive u, ina really special way. The future is bright but bound by fleeting time, I look forward 2 colliding with U, whomever U may be💫Th@ said, In retrospect, 2 all of u along the way that have been subject 2 my learning process & stuck thru all my bullshit😘I'm thankful 4 all U fine specimens having been caught by said gravity & stayed in orbit, over the years. U have enriched my life beyond the scope of my ask. Thank U 4 the effort, energy, kindness, commitment, loyalty, & most of all, your⏳I look forward 2 this coming year w/ the likes of U all. The first day in front of the camera, after a decade behind it. All these years telling other people's stories & thought it'd be a shame not to start to tell some of my own. This 🪂 for me was an exercise in dealing with my daily confrontation with fear... The best things in life are positioned just on the other side of it you know and facing those fears head-on for me is something I covet mastering. Here above is a documented attempt at just that. Like a goldfish in a tank of piranhas, the 2nd manifest in a string of builds of mine SOLD today 👷🏻‍♂️ It is however w/ both great pride & a heavy heart that I tout this accolade. 5,000 ft² of adult playland, dusty gray porcelain tiles masquerading as the finest wood plank this side of the Mason-Dixon, white shimmery Italian tile imported, only 2 drape, mantles of the 70" linear fireplaces in dual bi-floor living rooms. Sunsets off the masters wraparound balcony just crimson enough 2 pull in 2 ur orbit ur future wife/husband & just maple enough 2 keep them in said orbit thru hard times 2 come. Softly lit office space in which 2 manifest ur living contrasted by a 150" island wrapped in decadent touch-open cabinets, 2 nourish the soul in tandem. Flickery tongues of warmth, cascading the top of an outdoor fire table shiny enough to contemplate ur life in reflection (no pun intended) symphonied only by the sound of the dual floor waterfall spilling from above. 3 levels of tastefully placed inset, phone controllable LED 2 light ur path, a minibar, a game room 2 🔥 the child in u, a movie theater to 🔥 the storyteller in u, an opulent master bedroom 2 🔥 the partner in u 😉 graced w/ a master bath w/ floor planked accent walls, his & hers recessed touch panel mirrors & a freestanding tub framed by a 6x10ft picture window fit 4 the mayor of the little 🍎 himself. Now 4 the lessons. This very house atop a bluff in Colbert Hills, facing due west @ the firefly night filled plains SOLD, @ a LOSS. Everything that glitters ain't gold, all these filthy animals out here on Instagram will try 2 fool u by posting only the A-Side of their lives, & comparison is the thief of joy, so here 4 u is my B-Side, as I am here to give it to u straight. In the journey of growth, life is reborn from fertile soil, bound by the ashes of LOSS.
