Observing wildlife is a form of meditation, and expressing my perspective through a camera lens is an art. I cherish both.

Birding and wildlife photography transport me to a magical realm of peace, a serenity that often feels absent in the rush of city life. Every encounter in nature offers a quiet lesson, and translating what I see and observe into photographs has become a joy I have been nurturing over the years.

Every monsoon, photographing the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher somehow becomes a ritual. No matter how many times I’ve seen or photographed this little beauty, the excitement never fades. The anticipation of that first glimpse, hidden among the lush green forest, is something I look forward to every year.

There are long walks, wet clothes, muddy trails, and hours of waiting, but the moment this tiny flash of orange, blue, and purple appears, everything else is forgotten. It’s one of those birds that keeps calling you back, season after season.

Sharing a few of my favourite moments with this incredible little bird. Every encounter feels special, and I’m grateful that the monsoon gives us another chance to witness its magic.

As summer lowers the lake’s waters, a new world emerges along the shoreline. Fresh patches of lush green grass and shallow lagoons appear where waves once stood. These transient habitats soon come alive with birds—pratincoles, terns, spoonbills, ducks, stilts, and many others—finding food, shelter, and space to thrive. What seems like loss at first becomes an opportunity for renewal. Life discovers new ground on which to flourish, reminding us that nature is constantly adapting and finding ways to bloom.

One of the most fascinating wildlife moments I’ve witnessed recently was seeing Indian wolves, a pair of jackals, and a Bengal fox sharing the same grassland. Despite being predators, they appeared to coexist peacefully, each going about its business in the same landscape. Observing this subtle balance of nature firsthand was truly special and offered a glimpse into the incredible dynamics of our grassland ecosystems.

Watching six wolf pups in the middle of a barren grassland was one of those moments that stays with you long after it’s over. There was something deeply moving about seeing such young lives thriving in a place that seemed so unforgiving. All day, they stayed tucked into a shallow ditch, hidden from the vast openness around them, waiting for their parents to return. Yet they didn’t seem burdened by the uncertainty. They played, wrestled, chased each other, and filled the empty landscape with life and energy.

As I watched them, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of hope. In a world that often feels harsh and unpredictable, these tiny pups carried on with innocence and trust, completely dependent on their family and the instincts that have guided their kind for generations. Their resilience, their joy, and their quiet determination to survive against the odds were both humbling and inspiring. For a few hours, I wasn’t just observing wildlife—I was witnessing the fragile, beautiful persistence of life itself.
