Meet Me At the Water Tower is back!

For this edition of Meet Me at the Water Tower, we are beyond honored to highlight the architect behind Andersonville, Thom Greene.

Thom Greene has helped shape the look and feel of Chicagoland through award-winning historic preservation, restoration, and community-focused design. His work has earned national recognition, including the AIA Illinois Daniel Burnham Award for Community Planning Service, more than 50 architectural publications, and numerous preservation and restoration awards. One of his first community projects was coordinating the planting of 200 trees along the Broadway corridor.

Thom's impact can be seen throughout Andersonville and Edgewater. He helped create the Andersonville streetscape, the neighborhood's Historic District identifiers and the Andersonville Façade Design Guidelines. His decades of volunteer service have also supported the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Parks, the Edgewater Historical Society, and countless neighborhood initiatives.

More than 1,100 homes and businesses have benefited from his thoughtful approach to design, but his greatest legacy may be the neighborhoods themselves.

Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the candles.

From street festivals and farmers markets to a growing storefront on Bryn Mawr, @edgewatercandles has come a long way! We are so grateful to have been part of their journey and to watch this wonderful small business continue to grow and thrive.

Today, we were proud to stand alongside the @edgewaterchamber and the @lsrcc_chicago to celebrate their latest milestone: an expansion into the storefront next door, creating even more space for their popular candle-making classes and workshops.

Congratulations to the entire Edgewater Candles team on this exciting next chapter. We can't wait to see what's ahead. by @avillechamber

Unfortunately, the Little Free Library at Clark and Winona will need to be taken down. It seems our rogue decorator just can't keep their hands off it, and the damage continues to get worse.

We had hoped to bring more of these little community treasures to Andersonville, creating spaces to share trinkets, love notes, seeds, and other small surprises that bring a little joy to someone's day.

We are disappointed to see this one go, but we're hopeful that a replacement might find its way back to the neighborhood someday.

And for those participating in our Punkin' Scavenger Hunt, don't worry! Punkin' will still live at this location. You can even spot the letter in the photo, so save yourself a trip over. Consider this our little freebie to you! by @avillechamber
