All right people! Lineup change!

As none of you people wanted to correspond with me (I'm not crying, you are) instead for issue #1 the section will be replaced with an emergency bulletin on the state of the music scene in Northampton.

As my former stomping ground, it's been terrible watching from afar as my old scene is struggling despite the wealth of talent there. So I am using my platform, whether y'all like it or not, to platform the town's music scene!

Read about the great people doing great things there and my proposal to start a twinned town of music because they would thrive up here! In the meantime though, go, look at and support the work of @avoidcollective as they are at the heart of holding the scene together.

We’re having to change things. For the last 2 years we’ve not really stopped. The A Void Collective has put on gigs, released ‘Notes From The Void’, compiled albums of local acts, and has done this regularly at no cost to the gig-goer, reader, or listener. We’ve had no funding, doing it purely for the love of it. We curated a stage at Solstice 2025, ran three nights of Voidfest 2026, recorded shows, uploaded videos, provided backline, stage-managed, booked venues etc. etc.

The scene is really struggling, hardly anyone is going to gigs no matter how good the acts are, and at the same time there are more shows than ever. Too many gigs can be just as bad as too few, and we’re part of the problem by running a show every month. We can’t do anything about other people putting on shows, but we can do our bit by cutting the amount we curate. So here’s the thing, all bookings for 2027 are now CANCELLED.

The remaining gigs this year will go ahead, but there will not be another issue of ‘Notes From The Void’ until the New Year, there will also not be a Voidfest in 2027. The Alldayer scheduled for Halloween is being scaled back to an evening show and will absolutely a ‘The Lab Presents’ event. We’ll be in touch with the bands who were down to play in the next day or so with more info.

We’re not going away, and we’ll be contacting bands about revised dates for next year. If you don’t hear from us, sorry, it means that show or booking won’t be going ahead - we’re having to be quite brutal with our trimming back.

Ultimately, it was this or stop altogether, which is not something we want to do.

Live music this week at The Garibaldi!

We are honoured to have been asked by @avoidcollective to step in to help save a disrupted gig this evening! @ceremonyeastcoast ( 2 members of @aptbs !) and @testplanband are performing TONIGHT! FREE ENTRY!

Friday we have @on_the_jank and & Nova Atarashi live, supported by Alex Novak hot on the heels of his amazing 40th Anniversray show for Venus Fly Trap!

Saturday we have our acoustic showcase - with live music from Jack Dawson and friends - some of Northamptons greatest young performers playing in the garden! (Weather dependant of course!) 🤞
