EXCUSE ME WHILE I DO A FEW CARTWHEELS!!!! 🤸🏾‍♂️ 🤸🏾‍♂️ 🤸🏾‍♂️
Apparently, we need to update my résumé.
Scientist. ✔️
Entrepreneur. ✔️
Event Producer. ✔️
Floral Designer. ✔️
Educator. ✔️
And now...
COLUMNIST?!?!?! ✍🏽🌸😂
Yes. You read that correctly.
I AM NOW A COLUMNIST.

And before anyone who actually knows me starts laughing—YES, I KNOW. Over the years, I’ve said too many times how much I DISLIKE WRITING

So naturally, life looked at me and said, “Perfect. Let’s give her a column.” 🤭

I am absolutely BESIDE MYSELF with excitement.

Last night, I opened Florists’ Review and saw my name attached to my first published column:
“Who Decides What Becomes Beautiful?”
I just stared.

Then I received an email from Bianca with links and discovered that the article is also published on Florists’ Review, Canadian Florist, Flora UK, Australian Florist and Living Flowers.
FIVE floral-industry platforms!!

My little ideas are out there traveling internationally while i sit here in the tristate. 😂🌎

But seriously, this one means so much to me.
I have subscribed to Florists’ Review for years. As a novice floral designer, I carried it around like a Bible. I’ve been featured, watched designers and industry professionals featured in its pages, I even won a contest hosted by Florists’ Review team, but I sincerely never imagined this for myself.

Nearly two decades in my industry producing events, working with flowers for about 13 years, traveling, researching, experimenting, asking a million questions and learning from growers, wholesalers, farm workers, suppliers, designers, cargo agents, customs brokers and so many others somehow brought me here.

I am immensely grateful to Bianca and the Florists’ Review team for seeing something in my perspective, embracing Floral Commerce™: The Business Behind Beautiful Things, and giving my voice room to travel farther than I ever imagined.

I feel proud.
I feel grateful.
And most of all, I feel SEEN and honored.

So please indulge me while I celebrate this one LOUDLY because...

Bringing You Back to Our Favorite Day ✨
October 21, 2023 🤍

Three years ago, I married my person. Somewhere in the middle of all the planning, we made a decision that I’m so grateful for to this day. We hired a content creator before it was really “a thing.” And now, three years later, I have never been more thankful for that choice.

Because of it, we have this: footage that lived quietly in a folder, waiting for the right moment to be seen. Little pieces of that day - the in-between moments, the real ones, the ones that made it ours.

Today, we’re finally sharing some footage that’s never been shared before to celebrate our special day. Watching it back, I remembered things I didn’t know I’d forgotten — the nervous hands, the way the morning felt, the look on his face before I walked in, my mom’s smile, my late grandmother’s pin in my cousin’s hair and so much more.

Truly our best day. Happy anniversary, my love. 🥂

03 | EMBRACE

Plot twist: sometimes the venue has already done half the decorating.

Ivy climbing across the mansion. Water reflecting the architecture. The most beautiful landscaping surrounding everything.

In settings like this, we don’t approach design as though we’re starting with a blank room.

We’re designing in conversation with our surroundings.

That can mean pulling colors from the landscape, preserving important views, resisting the urge to cover every surface, and choosing floral and décor moments that complement rather than compete.

Luxury isn’t always more.

We believe it is also exercising restriant.

Garden Ceremony — Locusts on Hudson, Upstate NY

One of our favorite things about a beautiful private estate?

Letting the wedding feel like it belongs there.

For this destination wedding weekend at Locusts on Hudson, we didn’t want the ceremony to feel disconnected from the landscape. The mature trees, garden and planted elements became part of the visual story.

That’s something we think about constantly when designing for our clients:

Does this feel like them?
Does it feel like the property?
Does it feel natural and authentic here?

When those four answers are yes, the design usually doesn’t need to shout.

And yes… as the “tree huggers” that we are, we’ll take a ceremony beneath a magnificent tree any day. 😊🌳

01 | FRAME

Sometimes the first design decision is knowing when not to compete with what’s already there. 🌿

At Jasna Polana, the landscape already brings so much to the experience—mature trees, beautiful sightlines, architecture and gardens that feel established and authentic rather than manufactured.

When we’re designing in a setting like this, our question isn’t automatically, What else can we add?

It’s:

What should we frame?
What should we leave alone?
And where can design make what’s already beautiful feel even more intentional?

Environmental design starts long before the flowers arrive.

POV: Your ballroom is full… but you still need somewhere to dance. 💃🏾

For this Jasna Polana wedding, dinner completely filled the ballroom, so we took the band and party outside.

Clear-top tent. Illuminated landscape. Glowing spheres around the property and floating on the pool. ✨

Pretty? Absolutely.

But the lighting wasn’t there just to look good. Guests needed to see, we wanted to preserve the views of the architecture and pool, and we didn’t want the solution to require a massive exterior lighting production.

Function + beauty. Always.

And with that, we’re closing out our little conversation about The Art of Light the same way we approach so much of our work:

Solve the problem beautifully.

Pull up. Your seat is right here. ✨

Because after we’ve designed the whole room, we always come back to this view.

Candlelight glowing through glass.
Flowers right within reach.
A beautifully set table.
And the person you came to celebrate with sitting just across or next to you.

We love a grand ballroom moment — but make it intimate!

Beautiful floral arrangement can disappear on your tablescape if it’s not illuminated.

You can spend thousands on beautiful flowers… and they “disappear” in a dark ballroom.

Lighting and floral design should never be completely separate conversations.

Flowers react to light.

Glass reacts to light.

Water reacts to light.

Candles react to light.

Even the texture of linen can appear to change.

Some elements create the composition.

The other allows you to bring it into focus. 💡

A luxury ballroom should work from 50 feet away…

and from 12 inches away.

That’s why scale matters so much in event design.

Event design: AVS Events by @avsevents

Sometimes we’re not lighting a room at all.

We’re lighting the landscape.

For outdoor celebrations, we think about trees, pathways and architectural elements almost the same way we think about walls inside a ballroom.

What parts of the property disappear after sunset?

Where do guests need visual direction?

And which natural elements deserve to become part of the environmental design?

A tree that might disappear completely at night can become one of the most beautiful elements on the property with thoughtful illumination.

At AVS Events, we are know to bring nature in to become part of the décor. 😊 💫
