I’m Andrea — jewelry designer and metalsmith behind Andréa Watson Designs. Recently I took a week-long trip to the magical and oh-so-DREAMY city of Istanbul, Turkey ✨ and came back feeling much more inspired than I have in a very long time. It was an impromptu and unexpected trip and it reminded me of how effortlessly things fall into place when you’re brave enough to let go of control. It reminded me that new possibilities are always available and they show up when you lean into the natural flow of energy. Not that hard work, determination, drive, and vision setting aren’t necessary (they are).. but there’s something important that happens when you stop fighting and forcing against the old way of doing things and finally surrender to the new energy and experiences that are trying desperately to enter your life. These days it’s rare for me to have this app on my phone. So while I’m here, I figured I’d share about Solacé Cafe (an in-person group I’ve been offering as a part of @softlandingsanctuary). These bi-monthly meetings are a safe space for women who are experiencing grief of any kind: the loss of a loved one, loss of a relationship, family estrangement, health complications, loss of a career, or other painful life circumstances. Here we don’t offer trite encouragement or ill-timed advice. We listen respectfully as each woman shares her story and we honor the sadness, anger, fear and other difficult emotions. At the end, we use several brief rituals to reflect and clear the energy. This is a heart-offering and tickets are only $10. Each meeting is limited to 10 women (exact mid-city location shared upon ticket purchase). It’s a new kind of offering. A tribe of women who gather to support one another through the difficult seasons of life. If you’d like to join, click the link in profile and be sure to answer all membership questions that pop up. Requests without answers will be denied. Together we’re building a beautiful group of women of all ages and I’m deeply proud of the progress we’ve already made. We’re creating something that feels like a warm embrace in the midst of chaos and pain. Finishing these earrings today (mini arcs + mini siena climbers). With bulk production, I typically break up the work and tackle a small portion at a time. One afternoon last week, I cut wire to size and trimmed off sharp edges. The next morning, I filed the ends of each of the 16 pieces and created a curve on some. This morning, I hammered each piece to give it a shape and finish (smooth for arcs, dappled shimmer for climbers). Finally, you see me forming each pair and placing them onto jewelry cards. I’m sad to announce this, but tomorrow will be my very last market at @satellitebarandlounge. It’s been 2 years since I joined this beautiful community and I will deeply miss my sweet customers — as well as the kind and talented makers who now feel like family. Although the decision has been bittersweet, I’m excited to shift some of my focus back onto my love for wholesale (while continuing to handcraft orders placed on my website). If you still haven’t made it out, please come say hi/bye tomorrow. I’ll be setup with @kidglovesclay for one last combo MIREA sesh and I would LOVE to see you. How the Saona Studs are made — Each pair begin as round wire that is hand formed into spirals of two different sizes by wrapping the wire around a small mandrel or pliers. Next, rings are created by cutting each spiral with a hand saw. The larger rings are are soldered to ear posts and the posts are twisted carefully to harden the wire and test the solder joint. The large hoops are squeezed with pliers to create the oval shape, while the smaller rings are attached at the base of the oval. Finally, the ovals are hammered lightly to work harden the earrings, making them durable and sturdy. Then, into the tumbler they go.
