Reintroducing Myself: Away With Atika ✨

Hey everyone! If you’re new here—welcome! And if you’ve been here a while, let’s get reacquainted. 👋 @awaywithatika

I’m Atika, a Bangladeshi-American 🇧🇩🇺🇸 who moved to the U.S. at 5 years old as a legal immigrant. My love for travel started young—my dad took us all over Asia when I was a baby. But after moving to the States, travel became a dream we couldn’t afford.

Fast forward—I finished grad school, paid off my loans, bought my first property, and finally felt ready to make that dream a reality. In 2017, I took my first big international trip… and never looked back.

Here’s a little about me:

✨ Tech Professional – I’ve worked in tech for 12+ years, making 6 figures. My remote job & PTO make world travel possible!

📸 Content Creator – I started this page 4 years ago, but this is the first year I’m truly going all in. I want to build a community of open-minded people who want to balance life & travel more.

🌍 Explorer of ALL Things – I love luxury travel (but balance it with budget-friendly adventures). Food, unique experiences, and new cultures? I’m in!

🧘‍♀️ Yoga Instructor – Yoga changed my life. I fell into it through therapy and became an instructor last year. Now, I try to live intentionally & mindfully every day.

💪 Feminist & Women’s Empowerment Advocate – A girls’ girl through and through. You don’t need a man to start living your best life. But if you find a great partner? That’s just a bonus. Until then, I’ll be here, empowering you.

Life is EXPENSIVE. 💸 Can you truly build the life you want on ONE paycheck?

The median full-time man in the U.S. earns nowhere near $200K a year. And according to income estimates, only around 5% of individual male earners make over $200K annually. 😳

Now make that pool men in your age range.

Then narrow it down again to men who are:
emotionally available, single, compatible with you, want marriage, want kids if you do, share your values, live where you’re willing to live, AND actually want to financially support an entire household.

That 5% starts looking VERY small, very quickly. 👀

And even if you find a man making $200K… ask yourself what the life you actually want costs.

A home 🏡
Kids + childcare 👶🏽
Travel ✈️
Cars 🚗
Retirement + investing 💰
Emergencies
Dining out + experiences
Helping family
And simply enjoying life without constantly worrying about money.

Depending on where you live and the lifestyle you want, $200K supporting an entire family may not feel nearly as luxurious as social media makes it sound.

This is NOT disrespect toward women who choose to be housewives. ❤️ If that is genuinely the life you want and your household can comfortably support it, I believe women should have that choice.

But women to women: please understand the power of having your own money.

Financial independence means you can make decisions because you WANT to — not because you financially have no other option.

It can give women the ability to leave unhealthy or harmful situations instead of feeling trapped because their partner controls the income.

Your money isn’t just about being “independent.”

It’s about options. Security. Freedom. Choice.

A partner can provide for you AND you can still have something of your own. Those things do not have to be mutually exclusive.

Would you genuinely feel comfortable depending on someone else for 100% of your financial security? 👀👇🏽

🚤 ONLY $13 A PERSON for a private boat ride in DC?! 👀🌅

This might be one of my favorite ways to experience The Wharf! We found a Groupon for around $100 for an hour, which came out to about $13/person with our group!

Perfect for:
💗 Date night
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family activity
👯‍♀️ Girls dinner on the water!

A few tips before you go:

🍕 Bring your own food + drinks — yes, you can eat on the boat!

🚻 Use the bathroom beforehand because there’s NO bathroom onboard.

🚤 Pay attention to the driving instructions! The steering is super sensitive.

🌅 Book around sunset for the BEST views + photos.

⏰ If you can, book 2 hours! One hour goes FAST between eating, pictures, driving and relaxing. Two hours gives you time to pull up somewhere, eat and actually enjoy the boat.

🧥 Bring a layer because it can get chilly on the water.

As a DC-area local for 30 years, it’s so fun finding new ways to experience my own city. Seeing how much The Wharf has developed from the WATER was so beautiful! 🥹

🇧🇩🇺🇸 Two cultures, one very grateful heart. ❤️

This look deserved a permanent spot on the feed! ✨ I shared it on my stories, but I wanted to take a moment to appreciate how lucky I am to have grown up Bangladeshi American. 🥹

Growing up between two cultures has been one of my greatest blessings. It gave me the opportunity to experience the beauty of both worlds, embrace different perspectives, and ultimately choose the values and traditions that resonate most with me.

The beauty of being multicultural is realizing you don’t have to choose one identity over another. You get to create your own balance. ❤️

I’m especially grateful to have grown up in a community that continues to celebrate our Bangladeshi roots in such beautiful and FUN ways. From the colorful outfits and incredible food to the music, traditions, and sense of community, there’s so much to love about our culture. 🥻💃🏽

After traveling to 50+ countries and experiencing so many incredible cultures around the world, I’ve developed an even deeper appreciation for cultural diversity. But I might be a little biased when I say Bangladeshi culture will ALWAYS have my heart. 🇧🇩🫶🏽

Travel has taught me to appreciate other cultures, but growing up Bangladeshi American taught me to appreciate my own.

And that’s something I’ll never take for granted. 🍀

✈️ STOP letting packing anxiety stop you from seeing the WORLD! 🌎🧳

Overpacking? Guilty. 🙋‍♀️
Forgetting something? Been there.
Packing the night before? ALWAYS. 😂

Here’s your reminder that you don’t have to be a perfect traveler to experience the world. Your suitcase doesn’t need to be perfectly organized, your outfits don’t need to be perfectly planned, and you DEFINITELY don’t need to have everything figured out.

The memories you’ll make will always matter more than what you packed. ❤️

And guess what? Most things you forget can be bought at your destination. Don’t let the little things stop you from living your BIGGEST dreams!

The last clip is something we were shocked to see ☠️🦭in real life 🥹 felt like a scene out of National Geographic

Seeing a polar bear in its natural habitat in Svalbard was definitely one of the BEST bucket-list experiences I’ve ever given myself. 🥹❄️

Getting here isn’t your typical vacation. Svalbard sits deep in the Arctic, and seeing polar bears in the wild often means joining a multi-day expedition, traveling by ship into remote areas and WAITING. There are no guarantees with wildlife — we could have gone through this entire 10-day expedition without seeing a single polar bear.

And then… WE SAW ONE. 🐻‍❄️😭

And if you made it to the last clip, you saw nature being VERY nature. ☠️🦭 I was not prepared for my first polar bear sighting to come with a full National Geographic moment. 😂

Experiences like this make me so incredibly grateful. Grateful that I get to work, save my money and spend it on experiences of a lifetime. 🌎

But I’m also grateful that I’m brave enough to GO ALONE.

I didn’t have someone in my life who could come on a 10-day Arctic expedition with me, so I joined a group trip solo with @divergenttravelers . And because I did, I didn’t have to miss out on seeing one of the most incredible animals on this planet in its natural habitat.

That’s something I’ll always preach: don’t let not having someone to go with stop you from living your life. ❤️

Our planet and its wildlife are changing, and experiences like this make me want to learn even more about the places I visit, the animals that call them home and why protecting these environments matters. 🌎🐻‍❄️
