Travel is a privilege.

It is also one of the greatest modern ways to open up our world and change our minds.

I come from a small town that felt like a bubble growing up. There was little to no diversity or distribution of wealth. I used to have a lot of conservative ideas about the world and I let other people (people I trusted) to define populations, genders, countries, etc.

It wasn’t until I opened up my own world by not only visiting new places— but talking to locals, staying in properties that weren’t chains, getting involved in local initiatives, and asking questions— that I really changed my views.

I don’t have the answers to everything and I don’t claim to be the person you should go to as an expert when it comes to politics. But I’ll tell ya what I think-

Humans deserve food, shelter, and healthcare regardless of their nationality, gender, age, etc

Animals and the planet deserve protection

The math ain’t mathin to have 1% of the population in control of wealth as opposed to 99% of the population

🔫 violence is problem and control + establishing a culture of safety won’t fix the entire problem whatsoever, but it definitely won’t hurt

Freedom of speech is one of the greatest rights we have. The arrest of independent reporters and the m*rder of journalists is likely one of our greatest threats today in the US

and lastly— you don’t know what you don’t know.

Whether it’s by reading, watching documentaries, traveling, having a conversation with someone you normally wouldn’t talk to due to prejudices— are all ways to help shape what you know. And until we are all willing to expand our minds— I fear history will continue to repeat itself 🔁

👋 I’m Julia— just a girl who started traveling a decade ago, a healthcare provider, photographer, dog lover, and an unhinged millennial who doesn’t have a problem voicing her opinions. I’ve got a lot to learn for someone who’s learned a lot— but creating a community to share the things I have learned has been one of my favorite outlets.

Follow me for more travel, political rage, rescue dog, boutique hotels, wine/food, and daily unhinged moments type of content! It’s a well rounded party 🎉 by @awaywithjulia

Here’s your sign to travel a little differently this year 🌍 🐶

👋 my name is Julia— I’m a dog lover, world traveler, photographer, and full time nurse practitioner.

I’ve been traveling all over the world for the last decade, and for me travel has never just been about pretty photos and beautiful hotels— it’s always been about leaving a place better than I found it.

A major issue all over the world is the overpopulation of dogs. Whether it’s cultural, financial, or lack of resources— sterilization isn’t done the same way it is in places like the US (where there is also a major problem!)— and there are often not government funded shelters to help.

For me as a dog lover— seeing street dogs, hit by cars, starving, and living in horrible conditions— it’s difficult to travel somewhere and not feel like it’s my responsibility to help. The easiest way to do that that is also FREE— is to volunteer at a rescue. Whether it’s becoming a flight angel (if you don’t know what this is just ask me!), dropping off donations, asking to take dogs for a walk, or fostering for a night or two on your trip— this is such a good way to give back!

@cerritos_beach_dogs is one of my favorite rescues on the planet. Also a non profit coffee shop— built by a few fellow dog lovers in the middle of the Cerritos desert by the beach— the people who work here give their all to reduce the street dog population.

Everytime I visit, I foster a dog for a few days and so far, a few long term tenants have gotten adopted shortly after their foster with me — and now it’s Lady’s turn (it’s called Lady Luck 🍀 for a reason 😉)

What do we think— let’s share this all over the world and get Lady a home 🏠 ❤️

And if you want to learn more about how to help out street dogs when you travel— DM me ⭐️

This is a LONG post. And I don’t expect every follower to read it. But if it helps even one person to pursue education instead of just feeling anger. If it helps even one person learn something. If it helps even one person talk to the family member who disagrees.

Well then the hours of research were worth it.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming is one of my favorite places on the planet. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mountain range quite like the Grand Tetons and the town of Jackson feels right out of a western movie 🎥

If you only had a weekend here, this is how I’d spend it…

@hotelterra for the eco luxe vibes on a perfect ski trip ⛷️

@anvilhoteljackson one of my all time favorite properties and a particular favorite of ours at @numinoustravel

Jackson has a great little town square surrounded by amazing art galleries and boutique shops. You can spend the entire day walking around exploring— but here are some of my favorites 🛍️

@grandtetonnps is breathtaking, and sunset is a particularly special time. Head out early to give yourself enough time to park and find a spot, especially with some of these more popular areas during busy season (another reason I love the shoulder months!)

The best part about staying at @anvilhoteljackson is its restaurant @gloriettajackson which I’d come back to Jackson Hole for alone 🍝

These are some of my other favorite spots in town too!

@milliondollarcowboysteakhouse may be a popular place and lots of tourists at least come for a photo of the sign— but im telling you nothing beats some live music 🎶 in a western town

@persephonebakery is one of my favorite stops in the US for a coffee and pastry. A little French style bistro that is perfect for starting the day! 🥐

@yellowstonenps is right next door when you stay in Jackson! An hour away puts you at some of the popular areas in the park making this a great day trip!

Just don’t underestimate the traffic! Some of my favorite spots to hike and scenic stops are listed here. If you want some more dedicated time in Yellowstone I highly recommend staying a night or two in Gardiner Montana!

Happy hour on Saturday? Yes 🙌

The Bird is a popular spot with locals and a great place to sit outside and just enjoy a cold beer and a good burger 🍔

@cafegenevieve my favorite stop to get corned beef hash or eggs Benedict before a day out in the park. Do NOT miss out on the pig candy 🥓

@grandtetonnps 🫎 even if I never got out of the car and just drove around this park I’d be completely satisfied

There’s a lot of things that I think would make IG a better place…

One of them is this…

Everyone has a course now on how to “beat the algorithm” or “gain 4 bajallion followers overnight” 💲

There are so many tips and tricks thrown at us that we are literally overthinking every single thing we put out there

I don’t want to have to show up like everyone else… so I don’t.

I get it! The trends are cute sometimes

But like… I care so much more about what I am actually putting out there and why

What do you like to show up to talk about?

Shout out to my 5 followers who constantly like, reshare and comment on every single post 🤣

I can’t stand that human activity is being studied so that we stay stuck on certain posts. I catch myself watching the dumbest things actually rotting my brain because certain things work! 🪝 🪱

💰 💰

Or because they like to make fun of me!

This is easier said than done for sure especially for creators with a business!

❤️

Growing up in Ohio… I am always chasing the fall foliage in states nearby like New York and Virginia. But when I wanted a beach trip AND some spooky season… there was only one place to go 🎃

Also I am a huge TSITP fan so of course I wanted to go see the beach town that has been made famous not only by this show, but many others like Dawsons Creek, One Tree Hill and many more! 🎥

The best sourdough bread and baked goods in the entire city I am convinced— I went twice! 🥖

@hiddengroundsilm 🦕 🦖 dinosaurs and coffee? Sign me up ☕️

The cutest coffee shop also featured in The Summer I Turned Pretty ☕️

@flytrapbrewing I am obsessed with this brewery. Just a short walk from the cottage we stayed in… they stay true to their name by selling actual Venus fly trap plants! In the fall the brewery turns into a very cute pumpkin patch 🎃 🍺

This was a spot I completely stumbled upon while doing the river walk and I was so glad I snagged a window seat on a rainy day to watch the world go by 🍷

I am a sandwich queen so trust me when I say this spot is hands down a must— also a short walk from the cottage 🥪 👸

This place was worth the hype. I was in line outside about 10 min before happy hour started and was able to snag a bar seat. The oysters deal during happy hour is a must and wait until you try the cornbread muffins 😋

Snagging a table here to celebrate my anniversary was my favorite part of the trip. Such a memorable dinner at a @beardfoundation restaurant sitting at the chefs table (which by the way anytime there is a chefs table/counter option you take it!)

@rxchickenandoysters the owner here cares deeply about a true sea&farm to table style restaurant. Everything is fresh caught and in season and I cannot even talk about the fried chicken. I didn’t even take a photo because I swallowed it whole 🍗

🎃 👻

@carolinabeachnc pumpkin patch is the cutest pumpkin patch out there because anyone can do a corn field… this is something special

I had no idea how historical this town was until I got here. I love walking around cities and exploring the history. Catch one of their spooky tours this season 👻

I think a walking tour is my favorite way to get to know a cit taken in Wilmington, North Carolina by @awaywithjulia

Because for me, everything she stood for was trendy

#cdmx #cdmx❤️ #boutiquehotels

CDMX GUIDE | CDMX ITINERARY | MEXICO CITY HOTELS

Jane Goodall was one of the most famous people to ever exist. She could have stayed anywhere. But like with everything she did, she chose to stay somewhere intentional… for all the reasons I look to stay at a property…

The owners of this hotel, are the owners of the home. They grew up here in Mexico in this house before turning it into guest rooms. They care about CDMX because it is their home. They care about your stay because they want you to experience the magic they felt growing up here.

These rooms were the most comfortable of my entire stay. We barely saw any other guests and the entire property felt like coming home at the end of a busy day in CDMX.

The lush greenery, indoor/outdoor living, local artisan products and artwork, books, textiles…. It’s all intentional.

This breakfast is a reason to stay here on its own. I slapped honey on everything because why not when it’s this fresh?

I found myself wanting to sit and take everything around every corner in. There isn’t a single object here that was thrown in just for decor. Every book or piece of art matters.

One of the rooms at @umacasa.mx

Eco friendly travel doesn’t have to mean camping. I mean is camping off grid the most hardcore type of eco travel? Yes.

But as someone who loves design and who wants the option to have comforts like air conditioning and running water… I wanted to build a company that helped people like me get out of the chain hotels and the people who think a stay is just a stay… and help them find these intentional spaces, ran by locals, that ultimately are doing the right things to give back instead of just developing and capitalizing in ways that destroy locals incomes and the land and animals that call a place home.

I can’t stop development as bad as I want to. But what I can do is research so you don’t have to. Find the places ran by families who live there and care. Find the places that aren’t over developing. Find the places who give back, the tours that protect the environment.

Travel with us. Travel better. 🌍

I had to cancel my trip to Austria this October and my first thought was… so im stuck in Ohio?

But who says I’m stuck. Listen, Ohio might not be the coolest spot on the map… but this little heart shaped state is pretty freaking cool to me 😎

So whether you want a city weekend in Cleveland ❤️ 🎸 ⚾️

Or a weekend in the woods checking out one of the prettiest campuses around 🎃 🍁

There’s a little something going on in Ohio that im lucky to stick around for 🍂

First slide 📸 credit: @wanderintosomething

@fidelityhotelcleveland is my favorite hotel in the city. Not only are they dog friendly so I can bring Norah:

🍸 their bar is perfect
🖼️ they feature local artists all over the hotel
🛏️ the beds feel like a cloud
🍪 they had cookies in the room on arrival
💰 they give back to the local community

@shoresociety is always on my list of stops when im back in the land. Whether it’s summer by the lake vibes, or the autumn spooky shore society— Rachel does such a great job at curating little gifts

October baseball is the best baseball and @cleguardians are the best team ⚾️

@amba_cle @patronsaintcle the perfect drinks and eat combo in this part of Cleveland. I’m waiting on them both to sponsor me and pay me in spritz and appetizers 🥘

@duckrabbitcoffee is the best cup of coffee in Cleveland and I won’t be discussing that further

@zhugcle their only mistake was making me sit on a cozy couch with pillows after eating amazing food because it takes all I have to not lay down for a nap after devouring everything on the menu

@cloakanddaggercle the spookiest speakeasy with the most delicious cocktails

@lakeviewcemetery Cleveland is my favorite place for a fall walk 👻

@thejudithcafe will have you wondering if you’re in Cleveland or having brunch at a Parisian cafe in no time

@ilrionepizzeria im not going to stop talking about you 🍕

@pattersonfruitfarm fills cart with apples, pies, donuts, pumpkins, more donuts 🛒

@holden_arb for those fall foliage 📸 photos

@idyllreserve is my favorite cabin in hocking hills. I was one of their first guests on Airbnb years and years ago and I still try to get back every other year on a girls trip.

What are the symptoms of burnout?

🧠 deep mental exhaustion
😴 deep physical exhaustion even after a full nights sleep and trouble getting to sleep
🫠 detachment from work and life including feeling bitter and numb towards co-workers
✏️ drop in performance
🤢 stomach issues
🤒 getting illnesses more frequently
✌️ pulling away from friends
🍷 unhealthy coping

& so much more.

For awhile this year I thought I was depressed. I just didn’t enjoy planning trips, making content. My job in healthcare is hard but I became very cynical and it got to the point where even taking time off didn’t help.

It wasn’t until I admitted that I was burnt out that I could do something to change it and give myself some sort of permission to reset.

It is very hard for me to give myself permission without guilt to help myself when im feeling the burn out. I’m still learning how to do it but ultimately I am doing so much better!

Men, imagine there is a plate of 5 cookies in front of you.

There is a 20% chance you get the poisoned cookie.
It’s not ALL cookies. It’s just one cookie.

So you say “no thanks those cookies scare me”
And I say “it’s just one of the cookies why are you acting like that?”

That’s literally what you sound like when I say I can’t stand men and you tell me “well not all men” instead of just agreeing yall are a problem and you should start holding one another accountable.
