What happens when two acclaimed chefs, working thousands of miles apart in Bangkok and New York, discover a shared Mediterranean culinary language?
During this exciting ‘once in a lifetime evening’ One chef was Brian Rodriguez of Sirocco by lebua, the celebrated rooftop restaurant high above Bangkok. And the other Alessio Rossetti of La Devozione, the New York pasta destination created by century-old Pastificio Di Martino.

Topic: Do you know the wines of Casa Ferreirinha?

Casa Ferreirinha offers a great one in the form of its founder, Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira. She was the formidable 19th-century woman who helped shape the Portuguese family’s wine business at a time when wine was very much a man’s world.

🍷So excited to announce that my story about the history of the Donnafugata winery in Sicily is the cover feature of quarterly international print publication, Sommelier India.

I had met Jose Rallo earlier this year here in NYC, and her brother Antonio in Rome during a Coldiretti trade tasting.

When I first met these energetic, humble siblings I had no idea about the incredible drama and obstacles their family faced when transitioning from traditional Marsala production to wine.

Thanks to Michele Shah who organized an exciting trip to Pompeii in conjunction with the Old Vines organization. Buyers and journalists saw Mount Vesuvius wineries and took part in B2B events to meet the producers, in conjunction with Masterclasses and also the visits to Pompeii itself.

The Wine Searcher article I wrote, dated today 26_10_6, is in the comment

‼️I enjoyed that the speaker sprinkled in her personal history of Italy,
first as a student and then as a wine scholar, sharing those anecdotes
as she guided us through a tutored tasting of the wines.

One of her core concepts was describing Etna wine as a snapshot of history.
It is an especially appropriate description for a wine region where the past
and present seem to exist side by side. by @awinestory

Sommelier Taylor Parsons, a masterful speaker and sommelier with Marq Wine Group, titled the class “Pride and Prejudice.” The prejudice, he suggested, comes from the way “Prosecco” has come to mean a category of wine more readily than a particular place. For many wine lists, it occupies one slot: Prosecco. The name’s commercial reach can eclipse the landscape and producers behind it.

The journey occurred inside the Rare Room at the VINTUS New York Fall Portfolio Tasting.
The tasting was held at Tallow Steakhouse, a sleek destination at Fifth Avenue and 39th Street. Its glass frontage opens the restaurant to modern Manhattan. Inside, historic black-and-white photographs suggest an earlier New York.

In one photograph, a chubby child poses beside his father. In another, a man stands proudly near hanging cuts of meat. The names were unfamiliar to me, but the images created a sense of continuity. They recalled a time when businesses were built through family labor, personal pride, and attention to quality.
That made Tallow an especially fitting setting for VINTUS.

Michael Quinttus founded the national importer in 2004. His original goal was focused and uncompromising. He wanted to build a portfolio of exceptional, family-owned estates producing handcrafted wines.

VINTUS New York followed in 2019. It was created to connect those producers more directly with the city’s restaurants, retailers, and fine-wine consumers.
At the Fall Portfolio Tasting, those intentions could be felt in every detail.

#wine #winetasting #sommlife #somelifestyle #winetime Wineoclock vintus by @awinestory

One of the most wine events of the summer happened right here in
NYC. It was the excellent Coldiretti portfolio tasting and lunch.

Many of the producers I met in Rome were in attendance at this
incredible event with a Masterclass and delicious wine pairing lunch.

https://theluxuryreport.com/coldiretti-italian-wine-producers/#awinestory #winetasting #wine #sommlife #coldiretti by @awinestory

Reims Sets the Table for Les Relais du Goût
Last year, the first sight greeting me upon entering Reims looked remarkably like a giant Ferris wheel. Drawing closer, I realized people were dining suspended in the air.
That attraction, “Dinner in the Sky,” hoisted guests high above the rooftops to savor a meal prepared by Michelin-starred chef Philippe Mille.
Coming up, third edition of the Champagne and culinary festival Les Relais du Goût returns from September 18 through September 20, 2026.

Hosted by Coldiretti at the Columbus Citizens Foundation, Understanding Italy Through Wine brought together members of the wine trade for a seminar, followed by a leisurely lunch that encouraged everyone to do what Italians do best: break bread together over good food and wine.

#awinestory #wine #italianwine #coldiretti #sommlife by @awinestory

The intimate gathering, organized by Colangelo & Partners’ Eliza Reilly, brought together a few dozen media and industry guests to explore the wines of France’s Côtes du Rhône wine region paired with a Vinyl Play List.

#wine #frenchwine #awinestory #sommlife #sommlifestyle by @awinestory

June 11 Jancis Robinson presented a “Volcanic Wine” seminar in NYC.

Four fact-filled Masterclasses told visitors everything they’d need to know about Volcanic wine.

I explored two very different volcanic terroirs through vertical tastings of wines from Soave and Etna.

The lineup included three vintages of Pieropan’s Calvarino (2024, 2017, 2013) and three vintages of Tornatore’s Pietrarizzo (2021, 2019, 2017).

One takeaway stood out: volcanic wines are not defined by a single flavor. Instead, they seem to share an unmistakable sense of energy, tension, and place.

Many thanks to Suzanne Donovan-Brown of Maze Row Wine Merchant Doug Miller senior sales Manager for Lux Wine, and winemaker Angelo Di Grazia of Tornatore for an insightful exploration of how volcanic soils shape some of Italy’s most distinctive wines.
