Tuesday 14 October | 18:30 doors open @lab_111 Amsterdam | Free Entry All donations from the event will go to Gaza (PCRF) There are many ways to celebrate a city’s history. There are many emotions we can feel. There are many stories we can tell. Here are the ones we’ve chosen. Interpreted by @chellachella , music by me Brought to life by amazing creative and production team @djerimo @simemoe @masaya_kochi @lnaylorperrott @remy.db @oddvortex @hereth_stuff @luca_eis @joseff_murphy camamblo @katsihavong Very honored to be part of this special piece that questions the way we want to celebrate Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, I’ve often wanted to ask those questions, whether its on Australia Day, or every 14th of July in France, which history are we celebrating? Who and what is forgotten in these one sided narratives? Thanks team for bringing me in! Mokumgevoel is an invented word, combining ‘Mokum’ (Yiddish for ‘safe haven’, a nickname for Amsterdam) and ‘gevoel’ (Dutch for ‘feeling’ or ‘sentiment’). We wanted to reflect the idea that emotions are woven into the very fabric of the city, its past and its present - the idea that you can’t separate Amsterdam from the multitude of emotions felt every time someone rides their bike through the wind and rain, every time someone spends a hazy summer afternoon on a terrace, every time someone stops on a bridge to watch the sunset smudge on the canals. by @awirleon
