“Von 0 auf 180” — my second-year film at @filmuni showcased @achtungberlin , @sehsuechte , @vietfilmfest and @upandcoming.de

@von0auf180movie follows Thi as she navigates the fragile line between family loyalty and personal freedom. Caught between her father’s expectations and her own ambitions, she faces a choice that could define her future: follow the path laid out for her—or risk losing the little emotional connection she has left. A story about unspoken love, pressure, and the courage required to choose your own path.

Although incredibly rewarding, it was also a deeply challenging experience—4 a.m. call times made possible only by ungodly amounts of mate and coffee during the first two shooting days, while trying to stay focused and sane enough to do justice to a story that touched me so personally.
…
One thing I know for certain—and I mean this with all my heart—is that I could never have made this without the support of my friends, whom I was lucky enough to have as my crew. I’m deeply grateful to each and every one of you: Sophie, Eyad, Debbi, Lilli, Mirella, Suzanne, Bekka, Erik, Lovis, and Maui. Your dedication and support made this possible.

In the summer of 2021, I decided to stop my Biology studies at the University of Bonn, return home to Oldenburg, and pursue a new goal: turning my passion for visual arts and cinematography from a hobby into a professional career. I frankly had absolutely no idea how to do that. The only thing I knew was that I wanted to make films—to express my thoughts and show the world what I may have had the privilege of seeing alone.
I knew I had to come to Berlin. Somehow, I also knew that I wanted to study film at a university, as I had always felt a strong inclination toward academia. Thanks to a tip from my very dear friend and director Yara Khalil, I got in touch with my first mentor—and later, a close friend—Christian Blümel. I will forever be grateful for the warmth and openness with which he welcomed me into his studio at the RAW-Gelände.
There, I wrote and shot my first two short films, which ultimately secured me a place at Filmuniversität Babelsberg, where I still study today. Most importantly, I was given the opportunity to work as a camera man alongside Christian on my first feature-length documentary, Die Drei Häuser.
The film is an arthouse documentary that explores the inner worlds of the many inspiring artists who reside in the three main buildings at the RAW-Gelände—a space that is slowly shrinking and being swallowed by the rapid gentrification overtaking every aspect of what was once a much wilder city.
Working out of the studio at the RAW-Gelände, I was quickly immersed in Berlin’s relentless pace—sometimes working through the night and sleeping at the studio while, outside, crowds celebrated and rocked the building.
Today, I share these stills as a glimpse into what, for me, was the first step into a world I continue to seek to discover. by @aws_hwj
