I am forever grateful for @pier24photography This place has served as such an important resource for me ever since my first visit back in 2013. It has offered me a community that I now call many of these folks close friends. I can’t express my appreciation and gratitude for @haus_of_allie , @thechrismccall , @rydotcom and @mikifoto913 enough! I am humbled to be included in their current exhibition Looking Forward that is so thoughtfully curated by @haus_of_allie . If you are in San Francisco I hope you’re able to stop by and see the show! More about Austin Leong:

Austin Leong is a Chinese-American photographer living in Oakland, whose work includes equal parts humor, empathy, and nostalgia to produce photos from a keen eye trained on the street. His work chronicles contemporary Californian existence, where he walks, drives, bike rides through parks and suburban sprawls. Not one to overlook the mundane, Austin looks for moments where the everyday offers some moment of greater significance.

He has exhibited widely, with recent solo and group shows at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Minnesota Street Project, Pier 24 Photography, the Center for Photographic Art, and and Climate Control. Leong’s work is held in the collections of SFMOMA, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Pier 24 Photography, and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. His work was published in the book Soft Eyes (Deadbeat Club, 2024), a collaboration with photographers Adrian Martinez and the late Henry Wessel, and builds on earlier publications including On the Fence (2020) and Our Time Together (2017). His photography has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Atlantic & San Francisco Examiner.

He received his BA in Sociology from San Francisco State University and co-directs Book and Job Gallery, a photographer-run studio, darkroom, and gallery space in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.

Something new for the LA Art Book Fair this weekend

A set of five prints made in collaboration with my partner, @megankelso . These prints are part of a larger ongoing project exploring themes of solitude and isolation through the lens of everyday archived vernacular images.

Each image is an archival pigment print, edition of 5, hand-cut to 11 × 14” on 98 lb heavyweight paper.
