A few months ago, @axelyouri and I had the pleasure of filming @onno_theelen in his workshop, and creating this artist portrait on 8mm film for his exhibition at @purmerendsmuseum, curated by @jfkugel.

The exhibition runs for one more month, so if you’re in the area, go check it out! 🐊 by @axelyouri

Step into the mesmerizing world of Carolein Smit! ✨

A self-taught sculptor whose intricate works are often "baffling" to other ceramicists. Her unique techniques invite you into a realm where history, beauty, and the macabre intertwine.

In this exclusive 8mm artist portrait by Hannah Kugel & Axel Youri Meenout, discover how Smit brings to life figures from cabinets of curiosity, vanitas, and historic themes.

"I want to lure them into seeing something that is very tantalizing to look at and at the same time is not very pretty," she says, perfectly capturing the captivating tension in her art. From symbolic skeletons that remind us "you only get one shot" at life, to the fierce female power of Medusa, and the bizarre charm of her porcelain pugs, prepare to be enchanted and provoked.

Current Exhibitions:
📍 Cabinet de Curiosités Contemporain at jonathan F. Kugel – rue Watteeu 16, 1000 Bruxelles
📍 Le Bal Masqué du Fol at Galerie P. Kursaal – Oosthelling 10, 8400 Oostende
