🎃 THE FRIGHT SHIFT: We became pumpkin-guts-covered villagers in Kings Island’s Pumpkin Eater scare zone. Turns out, scaring strangers is harder than it looks.

🧟‍♂️ BY THE NUMBERS: About 200 scare actors work a typical Halloween Haunt night. Roughly half are returning performers.

👻 BEHIND THE SCREAMS: Actors audition in August, then get matched with characters and locations. Costumes and makeup help transform them just feet from parkgoers.

🎟️ IF YOU GO: Halloween Haunt runs Thursdays through Sundays through Oct. 31. General admission starts at $45 online; haunted mazes cost extra.

🏗️ FROM IRS TO IRL: Covington is investing more than $100 million to turn the former IRS site into a 23-acre neighborhood with homes, shops and riverfront green space.

📍 THE BIG PICTURE: The plan includes parks, public art and a promenade, while new streets and alleys are designed to connect the development with surrounding neighborhoods.

💰 THE BALANCING ACT: Some townhomes start at $645,000, and the 269 planned apartments at Riverstone Place will be market-rate. A 670-space public garage is planned largely beneath future development.

🗓️ WHAT'S NEXT: Covington aims to have first-phase development blocks under contract by the end of 2026. Garage construction is expected to start this year.

💵 TRUMP ACCOUNTS: Eligible babies can receive a one-time $1,000 federal contribution invested in the stock market.

📊 BY THE NUMBERS: As of July 30, Ohio had the fifth-highest share of early signups. About 230,000 forms had been processed, an estimated 10% of eligible children, compared with 7.6% nationally.

🧾 DETAILS: Eligible U.S. citizens born between 2025 and 2028 qualify. Parents must claim accounts to manage them, allow contributions and receive the federal payment.

🔒 WHAT TO KNOW: Claiming an account requires identity and relationship verification. Robinhood, the initial trustee and brokerage provider, says its privacy policy allows it to collect Social Security numbers, dates of birth, government IDs and facial biometric data from submitted images.

🐅 Not sure how Ja'Marr Chase made this catch — or how the Bengals pulled off this win — but both happened. We'll take it.

WHY IT MATTERS: Despite a shaky second half, the Bengals held on to beat the Miami Dolphins and improve to 3-2.

WHAT'S NEXT: Cincinnati gets a bye week before heading to Baltimore to face the Ravens.

⚾ REDS FANS: Cincinnati finished 75-87 and last in the NL Central after making the playoffs in 2025.

📍 CONTEXT: The franchise has not won a postseason series since 1995. The current ownership group has controlled the Reds since 2006, and CEO Phil Castellini said last week it plans to continue owning the team.

💬 YOUR TAKE: Should the Castellinis sell, was this a bad season for a young team, or is something else behind the Reds’ struggles? Tell us what you think and why.

☕✈️ Your preflight coffee run just got a little more Cincinnati.

VV Italian brought a taste of its Mount Lookout restaurant to CVG, serving travelers a modified menu with many of the same recipes as the original.

Swilley stopped by before a recent flight, grabbed an iced coffee with caramel and made it to her gate next door just in time for boarding.

No airport sprint required. 🙌

⚖️ EXECUTION SCRUTINY: Christa Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital during a failed execution attempt in Tennessee, renewing scrutiny of lethal injection in Ohio.

📍 OHIO DEATH PENALTY: Ohio has not carried out an execution since July 2018, when Robert Van Hook was put to death for the 1985 murder of David Self, whom he met at a Cincinnati bar before killing him at Self's Hyde Park apartment. More than 100 people remain on death row, with execution dates pushed as far as 2030.

💉 TROUBLED HISTORY: Ohio halted Romell Broom’s 2009 execution after more than two hours of failed attempts to establish an IV. Dennis McGuire’s 2014 execution lasted about 25 minutes as he gasped and snorted.

🔎 WHAT’S NEXT: Gov. Mike DeWine now supports abolishing the death penalty and does not expect another execution during his term, which ends in January 2027. Whether executions resume could depend on the next governor or action by lawmakers.
