This morning, I survived another run…

To be a woman in South Africa… yho, we are tired💔 There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from living in a country where, as a woman, you are constantly calculating how to stay alive.

To a woman who went out for a run and never made it home. Elizabeth Tsontso, we run in your honour and for all the women who never made it home. 💔

We remember her. We say her name and the names of all the women who have been failed by a system that was meant to protect them. May we never become so accustomed to losing women that we begin to accept it as normal.

Now for what I was actually in Kigali for… work 🇷🇼

One of the highlights of the week was having the opportunity to see H.E. President Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda.

What an eventful week. Feeling incredibly blessed and grateful that part of my work allows me to meet and connect with people from across the continent and around the world, while building meaningful relationships and partnerships along the way. 🤎

Kigali, you were busy but so worth it. 🇷🇼 I definitely didn’t get enough time to explore you properly, so I’ll just have to come back. Until next time! ✨

What an honour to see President Paul Kagame. After visiting the Genocide Memorial and learning more about Rwanda’s history, I have an even deeper respect for him, not only as President, but for the role he played in Rwanda’s journey and rebuilding the country.

Where most of the meetings happened. It was always packed! At one point, I had to have a meeting poolside, sitting in the sun with one potential partner

Breakfast

And a special shoutout to my driver, who was absolutely exceptional the entire week. Somewhere along the way, he also became my photographer and was taking pictures of all my outfits

Till next time ✌🏽 taken in Kigali, Rwanda by @ayanda_vana

What was meant to be an afternoon hosting the team of one of our partners turned into a solo adventure. There was a little misunderstanding with the plans, but I couldn’t cancel, so off I went! Thoroughly enjoyed it. 🤎

Visited Kimironko Market because you know your girl will always find a market 🥲 and then made my way to the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

And then, of all places, I randomly bumped into @zandisilenhlapo at Kimironko Market 😊 What are the chances!❤️

We ended up having the biggest chat right in the middle of the hustle of Kimironko Market 😂 What an experience! 🤎

I had the most incredible driver throughout my week in Kigali, but when we got to the memorial, he asked to drop me off and wait outside. He later told me that almost 33 members of his family are buried there, including his parents and siblings who were killed during the genocide. He survived by escaping into the mountains.

You walk through the memorial learning about the history, then step outside and realise that for the person who has been driving you around all week, it isn’t history. It’s his family, his loss and his lived experience.❤️

You’re not allowed to take photos inside the memorial, and to be honest, once you’re inside, you understand why. It was incredibly heavy. I couldn’t even finish the full tour myself. 🤍 taken in Kigali, Rwanda by @ayanda_vana

I was so determined to wear this dress while in Kigali, so I wore it to breakfast, even if it was only for an hour 🥹 before changing into my corporate look for the day. And to be fair, it was my first proper sit-down breakfast all week. Every other breakfast had been coffee on the go 🫶🏽

Absolutely loved this space. So incredibly beautiful and such a great find in Kigali. 🩷

This is probably the most accurate reflection of my time. Managed to squeeze in a few minutes to explore the space before getting back to work. Wish I had more time 🩷

Shoutout to my driver 🫶🏽 Kept my dress in the car and managed to change into my corporate look after breakfast. taken in Kigali, Rwanda by @ayanda_vana

When in Rwanda, I had to bring a little touch of home with me 🇿🇦🤎

Pre-airport selfies

When I see green, I’m happy. 🥹🌿 I absolutely love greenery and beautiful gardens.

Kigali energy 🇷🇼✨

People think work conferences mean you’re just travelling and chilling 😅 Meanwhile, you’re still doing your actual work back home while trying to build new partnerships and relationships in between. The work doesn’t stop🙃

This is the actual picture that made it to LinkedIn 🙃
