July 20th 1:27pm my godmother, my beautiful, brilliant Aunt Cindy moved forward from this world. In this lifetime Aunt Cindy was an award winning ABC news editor. Her superpower was writing and journalism. She was a lover of the arts. She was a mentor, especially to black women coming up in the news and media world. And she was a mother to so many children who were not biologically her own.

My Aunt Cindy took care of everyone. The oldest of six siblings she naturally was a protector and care giver. When my cousins and I were kids, she would throw the most epic Easter egg hunts. She would get friends and family together over the weekend to help stuff hundreds of eggs. She’d get her friend to dress up like the Easter Bunny and on day-of all of her nieces, nephews, neighbor’s kids, friend’s kids, other family’s kids and more would take over, running around gathering eggs with candy and money.

My Aunt Cindy was the one who shared the name “Ayanna” with my parents. In combination with my middle name she would tell me the meaning was “beautiful flower of Jesus”. She loved in a big way. She was strong and if you messed with her or her loved ones she’d curse you out in a heartbeat. She lived a full life. I’m thankful for the 70 years we had her on this Earth. Vibrant, beautiful, stylish, fun, smart, funny, she was simply amazing. An inspiration to me and so many.

Living so close to my Grandma Lou Lou this past year I got to see my Aunt Cindy a lot more. It’s not going to be the same stopping by and not seeing her there but I’m grateful we had so much time together. We got the 24 hour call from her doctor Saturday morning. I was already seeing her everyday but that day I stayed with her all morning. Then came back in the evening after my show and stayed over at the hospital with my Grandma. I barely slept, just prayed and looked at my Aunt, watching the preparation of her transition. She fought till the very end and knew when it was time to let go. She moved forward peacefully.

My godmother, my Aunt Cindy, it has been an honor to be your goddaughter. Till we meet again, I love you always ❤️ by @ayannathesinger

A little behind-the-scenes look at Ayanna + the Remedy locking in for this Friday at Pelham Bay Park! 🤫🎸🥁

Always grateful to create music and share it with you all 💯

Meet us this Friday 7-8:15p 🎶
🌳Pelham Bay Park | Middletown Lawn
📍Middletown Road & Stadium Avenue
Bring a chair or blanket 💫

🥁 Meet Zaire, the dynamic heartbeat behind the rhythm! ⚡️

Born and raised in Queens, Zaire started playing at just 3 years old in churches across the tri-state area. After a post-college comeback, he hit the scene full force, lending his incredible percussion and drum skills to major stages like the Brooklyn Afropunk Festival, Apollo Amateur Night’s final round, the Cherry Blossom Festival, and the Cafe Open Mic 🎤

🎸 Meet Alejandro Castro (aka Ale), the rhythmic force holding down the low end! ⚡️

Based right here in NYC, Ale is an incredible electric bassist and guitarist with a deep passion for the music of the African diaspora. Having honed his craft under the mentorship of legends like John Turowski and Victor Rendón, he’s brings a wealth of knowledge to the stage, moving effortlessly through rock and Latin ensembles alike.

🎹 Meet Kevin Obas, the multi-faceted creative holding down the keys! ⚡️

Hailing from Queens, Kevin is a self-taught pianist, drummer, producer, and rapper. His incredible versatility has taken him from international stages—touring with a major Haitian celebrity—to elevating the local NY arts scene as a key member of the Cafe Open Mic creative team.

We are so excited to bring the music to Pelham Bay Park this Friday! Ayanna + the Remedy will be hitting the stage live with an evening of original music dedicated to love in all its forms 💕Expect soulful R&B, heartfelt storytelling, and live music made for a warm summer night. Grab a chair or a blanket, find your spot, and let the music find you 🎶

Free your evening and let the music handle the rest.

You couldn’t tell big chop Ayanna NOTHING!!! I still remember coming home and my dad said I looked like a poodle 🤣 Despite the feedback 😝 this hair style was a part of my Delicate era. I wanted to cut my hair for so long and it was such a liberating feeling when I finally did it. The first shot ended up being the cover for the Delicate EP, shoutout to @p.gonzy 📸 and @gobeshameless 💄. I’m leaving my hair alone…for now lol Maybe in another five years I’ll do a big chop again 💇🏽‍♀️ by @ayannathesinger
