Coming up from the basement this week, Ayash, long an active member of the Yogyakarta scene, Ayash’s creative work fuses the visual with the sonic. Besides exhibiting her artwork as an artist or working as an illustrator & graphic designer, her enthusiasm in music also led her through DJ-ing for fun. Most of her works are participating in some hybrid activities that often intersect with any kind of art sector or collaborative works. For this series, she has crafted a primal sonic ritual from the shadows of the underground. Ayash unleashes a heady fusion of broken rhythms, tribal percussion, and haunting vocals that feel both ancient and futuristic. Channeling raw, instinctive energy into a groovy electro-driven pulse, the mix swipes from fractured beats into deep, bass-heavy psychedelia without warning. Zigzagging through textured soundscapes, hypnotic low-end pressure, and mind-bending transitions, it blurs the line between ceremony and rave. This is a message for my myriad moments of gratitude and wonder. Gifts of time and awareness. Some cats to love us, a partner, and friends to call in, a matriarch to care for. These small treasures that keep nourishing until this year and more. I have read a poem by Mary Anne Perrone before and read it again because it feels talking to me: I am no longer waiting for a special occasion;
I burn the best candles on ordinary days. I am no longer waiting for the house to be clean;
I fill it with people who understand that even dust is Sacred. I am no longer waiting for everyone to understand me;
It’s just not their task. I am no longer waiting for the perfect children;
my children have their own names that burn as brightly as any star. I am no longer waiting for the other shoe to drop;
It already did, and I survived. I am no longer waiting for the time to be right;
the time is always now. I am no longer waiting for the mate who will complete me;
I am grateful to be so warmly, tenderly held. I am no longer waiting for a quiet moment;
my heart can be stilled whenever it is called. I am no longer waiting for the world to be at peace;
I unclench my grasp and breathe peace in and out. I am no longer waiting to do something great;

The walker-listener operates not as a detached observer but as a porous threshold, temporarily hosting the convergences and frictions of a world perpetually sounding itself into being. In this mode of attunement, the environment is no longer a passive backdrop but an active co-composer, asserting its own rhythms, resistances, and quiet insistences. Through the practices of the contributing artists, field recording emerges as both method and critical inquiry. Eschewing ideals of sonic purity, these works embrace instability, rawness, and the unresolved as aesthetic and political force—foregrounding the textures of everyday life as sites of ecological insight and social tension. MISTY SUNDAY 010: AYASH Like a radio tuned to wrong frequencies. Buzzing and distorted, like a fear. But fear exists for a good reason, it protects us from danger. Being aware of every pain, but, never rush karma ‘cause it will rob us blind of payback, so, sit back and unwind. Listen to a consciousness monologue over an eerie subliminal soundscape. Following the voice of Gordon Gould, driving to Howard Phillips Lovecraft’s mythical city of Celephais. Go within. Winding. To the mystical dream-like state. And the journey still continues.. Believing when the frequencies move, minds do too. Let the conflicting sounds move like a conflicting life, and the harsh reality of the world. Even when the universe plays devil’s advocate often, but, our body and mind understands that those debates are, in fact: mental exercises. Some life that is too predictable also makes us antsy. Today is one month since Snowy passed. I lost her a week before my birthday last month. And Snowy left on a full moon passages (Yup, 10 June 2025 was Rahina Purnama, and she departed from her body after midnight at 01.00 AM —entering 11 June 2025). Also she passed during the last month in Javanese/Śaka calendar —before the Sura, the new cycle. Even a few hours before, it looked as if her body had not even noticed her spirit had left. I believe that Snowy choose the right time to leave, the purest light of the moon, the most powerful time when the portal is thinnest and makes it easier for her soul to exit or make the transition. And it's been a month. And full moon again! Every full moon now, will be my furrever memories about Snowy 😊 Thank you for these past 14 years and taught me more about true love unconditionally 🌌🌹 by @ayash.laras

Looking at Ayash’s work makes me reflect on how many instruments from the past still exist around us, yet their presence often fades into the background, overshadowed by time and modernization. These instruments, once central to rituals and communal life, now sit quietly in the margins, rarely played and less frequently heard. This mixtape serves as a gentle reminder of their enduring significance—a reimagination of their voices and how they might sound in today’s world.
