#HydeParkHighSchool All-Class Alumni Weekend is coming up!!

Had to show the sports pictures I have in my possession

While I was no All-State or even All-City (my skills weren’t that elite, but good enough to start some games and be in the regular D-Line rotation), I was like the Brian Chavez of Hyde Park sports: excelling in the classroom and contributing to the team when called upon by doing the fundamental things. And enjoying every minute of it.

I thought it will be a million years before I write something like this but here I go 😥

Based on what I heard from two fellow former #ParkKids and from #TheBook, one of my first coaches, Kyle Gillard…has made it into the eternal coaches’ #HallOfFame on Sunday (or perhaps before then and I saw the past on Sunday)

Coach Kyle was one of my first coaches I ever had in sports; he, along with Coach Shiela (@swannguerrero) coached the #FosterPark #SpecialOlympics teams (Flames and Fireballs). I enjoyed playing for those teams in the mid 90s, dominating in basketball and floor hockey while also winning medals in bowling, soccer, track and field and softball. Coach Kyle believed in me so much that he let me start with the older folks on the basketball team as a forward, despite me being just 4’9-4’11. Coach Kyle also introduced me to my favorite position in #hockey and #soccer: #goalie!

Thank you Coach Kyle for coaching me to be a valuable player, which translated into being a valuable person in all my later endeavors!
