One molecule with “two passports” 💊🌍

Paracetamol and acetaminophen are the same drug (not cousins, not twins), literally the same molecule.

Same chemical name (C₈H₉NO₂) : N-acetyl-para-aminophenol or N-(4-hydroxyphenyl) acetamide

same pain relief and fever reducing abilities..

The only difference is who named it:

The U.S. uses acetaminophen because of the USAN system, while Europe and most of the world uses paracetamol under the WHO’s INN system.

It’s one of the rare drugs that kept two official generic names because it existed before global naming rules were fully standardized.
