I can’t even begin to understand why this happened to you Coach.

I’ve never been one to question my beliefs, but losing you… it’s shaken me in a way I didn’t expect. For something like this to happen to such a loving and admirable man doesn’t feel right. This wasn’t how you were supposed to leave us. But I know Vei, Ham, Vili, and Ramone must’ve needed you more, and I take comfort knowing you’re finally with our brothers again.

I promise you, me and Shona will keep moving our feet and pushing forward, just like you always told us to. And yeah, I know I’ve already posted hella about you, but there still aren’t enough words or pictures to describe the alofa you gave to so many people — especially to so many young Polynesians such as me and my twin.

There will never be another like you. But we’ll do our best to live the way you taught us and to raise the next generation with the same love and strength you poured into us.

Today, I walk away from the game I love for good. And although this wasn’t the way I would’ve pictured my story ending, I can’t dwell on what was but instead be grateful for the time God blessed me with to be able to play this sport for as long as I did. For fourteen years football was all I ever knew and now I trade in the helmet and shoulder pads for something new.

I’m forever thankful for the ups and the downs, those who’ve mentored and continued to push me, and the brothers I’ve met and had the pleasure of sharing the field with over the years. I’ll always cherish these memories for the rest of my days. Thank you, Football, for the best damn years of my life.
