2025 foil highlights

love this 34L 4’6 Apex by Glenn Pang. i don’t see as many people prone surf foiling these days and I think it’s because prone boards are too small for a lot of folks. don’t get me wrong, i love ripping a 3’11 x 25L, but long paddles on on it are not fun and i definitely catch less waves.

that’s a wrap for the 2026 #hydrofoil #surfhydrofoil #downwindfoiling Hawai'i downwind foil race season.

i hurt my oblique/intercostal muscle paddling up during an @oahufoil race the weekend before the Voyager/Wetfeet race so i am grateful i was even able to do M2M and M2O less than 3 wks later. i improved my time in M2M from last year by nearly 6min, even with a bad start, good for 86/145 overall in a stacked field. rode the @unifoil 110 Quest, was stoked to finally ride it in some fast bumps. but i woke up really sore the next day and gave my Kamalo race spot up to rest up for M2O. then Monday, M2O morning, a series of rain squalls passed over the west end of Moloka'i and killed the wind. the ocean was nearly glassy for the first 12-15 miles of the channel. after about 2 hrs, a few dozen paddle ups and 8.5 miles on foil, i made the difficult decision to get in the boat and take the DNF. being sidelined for 3 wks before the race definitely took a toll on my fitness, strength, endurance, and confidence. next year I’ll be stronger, fitter, and more prepared. 💪🏼

despite the feelings of disappointment, shame,and grief for not finishing M2O, i’m grateful to get to that point, and grateful for the support from my friends (particularly @long.armed.ape for all the support on Maui), my family (especially @kizzabeth ❤️), my friends on the escort boat (@peopledseas & @kanielalm ), sponsors (@majek808 & @unifoil), and the Moloka'i community for having us for the long weekend. i still feel like nothing compares to the thrill, challenge, and adventure you get downwinding, especially across channels between Hawaiian islands and the camaraderie you share with the folks you share those experiences with. 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼 by @ayersupply

two weeks ago i injured my oblique & intercostals trying to paddle up after i went down off of Hanauma Bay during an @oahufoil race. felt a zing on my lower rib cage and a pull down towards my hip. instantly thought, oh no, i’m not going to be able to M2M, M2O, etc. i’ve been training for months, so needless to say, i was bummed. but it started to heal pretty quickly, i went to physical therapy and a chiropractor a few times and 12 days later (Friday) i was able to paddle up again. thanks to @diamondheadchiropractic & @orthosporthawaii for giving me a shot to do this 🙌🏼

first run, first thoughts on the @unifoil Quest 110 downwind foil. this foil is fast, turns very well for its span, and has great glide. more to come!!
