Thinking of a Wixrarika story I come back to often that I learned transcribing papers my abuelo wrote many years ago.

The mortal remains of Tatei Aitsárika, the mother of fertility who invented weaving. Beneath the earth where her carcass lies, her heart-soul is called up to the surface of the earth by Kauyumarie, the messenger of the spirits of light and the guardian of their souls. She emerges above the earth as a shadow of her former body, carrying in her basket the thoughts and plans for the world of man, the offspring of the ancestors for spirits.

With his plumed speaking arrow, Kauyumarie lifts her soul to a prayer bowl before him and brings her words to the foot of his sacred chair where he has his shaman’s basket. Tatei Aitsárika’s heart is turned into two winged insects and her spirit into hidden black flowers. The juices of her flesh become round mushrooms. Flies and a burrowing
caterpillar, the nesticuil, seeds and weeds are born out of her saliva.

We are endless companions, siblings, past and present ancestors, saliva, mushrooms, insects, humans, weeds, water, earth… and on. Feeling so grateful to have spent the day in volcanic agua termal celebrating my tia Diana’s birthday who teaches and inspires me so much about how to care for one another with intention on earth. by @ayishadasilva

A year ago today I rescued my baby!! My Ruby Tuesday, Rhubarb, Rue, Rubarbie, Kangaroo, Ru Paul, diva companion extraordinaire. So far she loves listening to fast music, very loud in the car, hates Neil Young’s voice, loves all fruits and vegetables especially apples, cherries and olives, adores stuffies, her girls, long walks, spooning and her family deeply!!!! by @ayishadasilva
