This Memorial Day I want to share the story of David Taylor II.

Remembering David is especially unique, because he didn’t die serving this country. David died fighting for someone else.

I had the pleasure of knowing David while serving in the Marine Corps from 2012-2016. We served 2 deployments and near the end of the Afghanistan conflict.

Shortly after service David joined a Syrian rebellion known as the YPG. The YPG or (People’s Protection Units) is the primary Kurdish armed militia and the official military wing of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, commonly known as Rojava. Formed initially to protect Kurdish-majority regions of Syria from ISIS.

On July 16 2017 David was killed fighting ISIS.

David will not be remembered in U.S. history. He will not receive any medals or merits for his sacrifice, but remains in my heart and the hearts of many others as an example of what it means to be a true freedom fighter. He is the bravest man I’ve ever known. David lives on through the many he has impacted

Rest in Peace David Taylor II by @ayo__kellz
