Less is more, it’s plenty of us

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
They say when you get older, you can count the real ones on one hand.

I didn’t really understand that… until now.

Ricky was one of mine.

Not just a friend, one of those people you don’t question,
the ones you just know you’re gonna grow old with.
Laugh about everything, talk about nothing,
pick up right where you left off every time.

Life don’t warn you when it’s about to change like that.

I got to see him before he passed.
Saw how hard he was fighting.
Saw the love around him.
And I’m holding onto that… because not everybody gets that moment.

But I can’t lie? it makes you look at everything different.

We move like we’ve got time.
Like “I’ll hit him tomorrow,”
“I’ll call her later,”
like life isn’t fragile.

And then one day… later doesn’t come.

So if somebody crosses your mind,
that’s not random.
That’s your moment.

Call them.
Text them.
Pull up.
Say what you need to say while you still can.

Because one day, all you’ll have is the memories…
and you don’t want to be sitting there wishing you made one more.

I’m grateful for every second I got with Ricky.
I just thought there’d be more.

Don’t wait. by @ayofap

Sat down with Nigerian legend Coach OBJ — born & raised in DC, left decades ago, and then spent a lifetime using basketball to build people, peace, and pathways across Nigeria. What he’s done is wild, and more folks need to know the story.

Receipts from the journey:

• DC ➜ Nigeria leap: Packed up and moved when most people were still asking if hoops could even take root in West Africa. He bet his life that it could.

• Built from dirt courts: Helped organize and upgrade community run-what-you-brung courts into structured training environments for kids who’d never had access to proper coaching.

• Hoops as conflict breaker: Ran ball clinics and “play-don’t-fight” tournaments in areas touched by sectarian tension — using neutral courts and mixed teams to cool rival lines and get youth talking instead of clashing.

• Player development pathway: Pushed the idea that talent needs curriculum — fundamentals, coaching education, and progression by age band — long before “player pathway” was a buzzword.

• Books & blueprints: Authored Grassroots Basketball Development guides so coaches in villages, schools, and youth clubs had something to teach from, not just vibes. Documented eras of the game in Nigeria so history wouldn’t disappear.

• Global bridgework: Collaborated with icons including Hakeem Olajuwon era outreach that inspired a generation of young bigs and dreamers who saw a Nigerian become an NBA champion — and believed they could be next.

• Peace-through-sport advocacy: Partnered with educators, faith leaders, and local administrators to tie hoops programs to school attendance, health education, and community service.

• Still pouring in: At 80-plus he’s still in living rooms, still mentoring, still handing over playbooks and philosophy to the next wave of builders.

I’m honored to be working with Coach OBJ on the next chapter — scaling multi-sport growth across Nigeria and using his decades of trial-and-truth to design systems that last. by @ayofap

“American soccer isn’t broken. It’s working exactly how it was designed—to make money, not players.”

After a year of chasing “development” for my son, from overpriced clubs to real grassroots training in London, I had to tell the truth.

This is #PonziBall—a deep dive into the pay-to-play hustle, the culture clash between South London and U.S. suburbia, and what real youth development looks like.
