One year ago today, at 2:37 a.m., my life changed forever. My mother, my best friend, the woman who gave me life, was called home. God had bigger plans for you, but that doesn’t make missing you any easier.
I think about what could have been all the time.
What my son would love most about you as he grows. The bond my daughter would have with you. The birthdays, the holidays, and how much more fun every party would be with you there sipping rum chata or getting iced lol….Even the last-minute calls asking, “Mom, can you watch the kids this weekend?” Those everyday moments mean so much when you realize you won’t get to have them ever again.
I grieve the memories we never got to make just as much as I miss the ones we did. But I find peace in the little signs that make me feel like you’re still right here with us. The red cardinals. The pink skies. Seeing 11:11, 5:55, or 3:33. The flickering lights, hearing my son say, “I miss Lolli,” “Hi, Lolli,” “Byebye, Lolli,” or “I see her.” It brings me happiness and makes me feel close to you again….We’ll always wonder why you. Why so soon. Why we couldn’t have more time. But I keep telling myself daily, God doesn’t make mistakes, even when I can’t understand His plans. And someday, when He decides my time here is done, Im certain you’ll be there to welcome me home… I love you, Momma, with all my heart. I’ll never forget you. My children will grow up knowing who you were and how much you would have loved every moment with them. Watch over my babies and my wife. They need you just as much as I do.
