POSTS STORIES REELS

We have officially reached the halfway mark in the filming of @ahanamurumbi first feature documentary; The Shadows of the Metropolis.

Logline: Amid a growing housing crisis, Kicha fights to keep her asylum-seekers shelter afloat as newcomers struggle to find refuge in the metropolis.

Through this film, Ahana seeks to uplift the stories of refugees and allow them to tell their stories from their perspectives rather than view it through a report, article, etc. As a child of Congolese refugees, she hopes to reshape the North American audiences’ view on immigrants who are simply seeking asylum for safety, security, stability and opportunity.

Here are a few pictures of our stellar and enthusiastic team on set over the last 2.5 weeks! by @ayorhaproductions

Our lead Producer for the feature film The Shadows of the Metropolis is Dasha Kova!

She is an award-winning story and line producer specializing in documentary and unscripted production, with over a decade of experience shaping stories for some of the industry’s leading platforms and brands. She most recently worked on a year-long documentary series that world premiered at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival. Her documentary work has earned official selections at Tribeca and Academy Award–qualifying festivals, with additional production credits on her commercial work with the Grammys, TIFF, Disney/Hulu, H&M, Laura Mercier, Converse, and more. Ukrainian-born and Canadian-raised, Dasha is now based in Brooklyn, drawing on a career built across Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles to bring social impact and a producer’s eye for story to every project she leads. by @ayorhaproductions

Our feature film has been selected for Canada Council’s “Artistic Creation” grant!

Grateful to have our work recognized and to see ‘Les Ombres de la Métropole’ AKA ‘The Shadows of the Metropolis’ continue to move forward with this kind of financial support.

Thank you to Canada Council for the Arts for seeing the potential in this story, and to INIS and Telefilm Canada for the guidance and mentorship that have helped shape it at this stage.

As we near moving out of development and into production, we’ll begin opening up the process, sharing more from behind the scenes and introducing the team bringing this film to life.

“I am absolutely grateful for this [Canada Council for the Arts] recognition, and I’m super excited to share with all of you the beautiful story of Kicha Estimé and her shelter” - CEO @ahanamurumbi

Words can’t express this moment.
Stress to relief.
Worry to reassurance.
Doubt to confirmation.
Rejected to loved.
And an idea to a screen.
That’s what it was, an idea. Just like every other goal I envision was and is, an idea.
But the limitations we place on these ideas to stop them from becoming reality, that’s created by our minds.
Our rejections.
Our doubts.
Our worries.
Our stress.
Our inability to express, our fear.
Well, express it.
Acknowledge it. Live in it.
Because that fear is as much an illusion as our imagination, and just like our imagination, we can control it and produce the outcome we desire.

It’s official… 🥹

I’m hosting my first-ever film screening:
📅 New Date: February 28, 2025
📍 Where: J.A. DeSève Cinema, Concordia University
🎟️ How: Eventbrite [linked in bio]

For the longest time, I felt stupid sharing random news about my projects on social media. They never felt worth sharing. At best, it felt pointless…like no one cared or that maybe I didn’t even deserve to celebrate. My brain was ridden with self dissidence.

But do know this: if you don’t share your work, how will anyone know about the incredible things you’re building? People’s perceived judgement can’t erase your talent.

Earlier today, a Canadian Screen Award-winning director and Concordia alum, Alfonso Maiorana, commented on my LinkedIn post saying, “Love this.” Obviously, I freaked out. I mean seriously? I was one negative thought away from canceling this event just 2 weeks ago.

I had NO idea where this film would take Sylva and me when we started A Girl Named Abigaël. I still don’t know how high I can go with every future project. But one thing I know is this: as long as I’m steadfast in Him, and as long as I try my best (especially on the 💩 days) even the smallest encouragement, like this LinkedIn reply, reminds me I’m on the right path.

If you’ve ever doubted your work, let this be a reminder: who cares if the world doesn’t see your vision yet? You care. You have something meaningful to share. And when you take that leap, you’ll be surprised at who notices.

“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me.”
― Erma Bombeck

See you February 28. 💜 by @ayorhaproductions
