POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Came back from Cannes and got swept straight into thesis season.

Cannes Lions Creative Academy 2026 was everything I'd hoped it'd be, and more.

Thank you to the amazing 29 creatives I got to spend this week with.

Seven years ago, I made this video for the Roger Hatchuel Academy competition, through the Pitcher Festival of Creativity.

The brief was simple: show why you’re creative and why you deserved a seat at the academy in Cannes.

I talked about the stories I'd heard as a child. About Idogbe, the disobedient boy who ended up with a bird in his stomach. About Oluronbi, the barren woman who bargained her firstborn to the god of the iroko tree just to know the weight of a child.

I talked about hunting for stories in bukas, on rooftops, in second-hand bookshops. About believing that Nigeria’s progress is inseparable from the stories we tell about ourselves.

I didn’t win the competition. The video was only one part of the submission, and my other entry didn’t make the cut.

But that process of digging into why storytelling mattered to me shaped my career. It gave rise to the Ayoyemi I am today, the voice that has guided everything I’ve built and everything I hope to build.

This video is proof of my early start, and how far a clarity of purpose in storytelling can take you.

Seven years later, I’m headed to Cannes. Sweet.

By the way, huge huge shout-out to @samuelsirme for helping bring the vision to life, and for believing in this story, haha. Thank you! by @ayoyemi_o

Did someone say Cannes?✨

In 2024, I applied to the Creative Academy at Cannes Lions and didn't get in. While I was waiting for the decision, I made a mockup of the scholarship cohort banner, inserted my picture into it, and set it as my phone's wallpaper for months.

It didn't come through that year. But I kept the faith and applied again.

This year, I got in. 🦁

At the core of everything I do is a belief in stories — the ones we tell and the ones we leave untold. That belief is what got me here.

I'm going to Cannes not just for what I'll gain, but because I want to one day give it back. To host a creative academy in Nigeria, and to be someone's village the way so many people have been mine.

To everyone who helped and encouraged me along the way — thank you. A million times, thank you! 🤍
