Babe wake up part 1 of Yurt Tutorial just dropped 🔥 here's our first draft of how to construct the main elements of the structures we make!! More tutorials coming soon on how to put everything together, but this should get yall started in the meantime for anyone inspired to start an ayu chapter wherever u are ❤️‍🔥(we made these drafts as quickly as we could, any questions & feedback are welcome!) INTRO:
Gers or ‘yurts’ have been used for shelter for thousands of years in Mongolia and elsewhere in central Asia. After much trial & error, we’ve arrived at a yurt-inspired design that’s kept us warm in -40°F nights. We believe everyone deserves safe and comforting shelter, and we’ve found these structures helpful in rural land defense and urban encampment contexts alike. Try it out, change it, build on it–just don’t sell it or profit from it. These are for the people. by @ayu_mpls

Today marks 3 years since the first ayu build day on the corner of 24th and 13th at the site of the original @campnenookaasi healing camp. We've been through ups and downs and want to take the moment today to offer gratitude today for all people who have supported our work since the beginning and newcomers who've found us more recently. Special thanks to @angry_grandma_612 for kicking off this movement and being our mentor and a guiding light through some of the struggles we have experienced. Thanks to yalls support, the support of the Minneapolis community, and support of all our volunteers, we have been able to provide an incredible resource to our city's most vulnerable people. We take pride knowing the depth of our commitment will continue on and that this project is still in a phase of adolescence. We look forward to continuing to work with y'all for years to come.

We’ve seen an overwhelming number of folks reaching out as they take the brave step of going to treatment and beginning their journey toward healing.

Many are leaving with very little and need the basics like clothing, socks, underwear, shoes, hygiene supplies, art supplies, beading supplies, and other personal necessities.

MnDOT and city of Minneapolis at it again fencing off some of the last spaces people without the refuge of a home can go to seek shelter. Shame on the city and state for their cruelty and apathy towards those forced to live outside by @ayu_mpls

While we waste time purity policing each other into oblivion, the ruling class is tightening their grip around our necks, the necks of the poorest among us, and those in the global South whose labor makes our luxurious lifestyles possible. As George Jackson correctly proclaims, we must, "Settle our quarrels, come together, understand the reality of our situation, understand that fascism is already here, that people are already dying who could be saved, that generations more will live poor butchered half-lives if we fail to act. Another 300+ piping hot cheesy potato burritos out to the people on this cool rainy day. For now we cook at least twice a week with plans to add more days as interest and support grow.
