can’t believe it’s already spring! here’s what in: therapy twice a week, journaling everyday, slow flow yoga, daily walks in the sun, abstract floral art, pink, fresh flowers on the table, learning new languages, reconnecting with cultural foods, sitting in the feelings instead of trying to psychoanalyze or fix, dancing as much as i can, yapping in cafes for hours with friends, self-acceptance before reinvention, less screen time more real life, picking up my camera again, letting life be simple and marvelous and spectacular and spontaneous ☀️ by @azariaferrer

i read the bell jar by sylvia plath back in january and when i tell you this book left me in shambles… i mean like fully cracked open, spiraling, highlighting entire pages, and googling essays at 2am.

i ended up doing a deep dive and exploring it through a queer lens and it just hit different. esther’s disconnection from the world around her, her resistance to traditional gender roles, her discomfort with the expectations placed on her body and her life… there’s so much in her story that reads like queerness buried under layers of depression and disillusionment.

the way she floats through rooms like she doesn’t belong, the way she wants something more but can’t name it, the way she keeps trying to split herself into something palatable and failing. it felt less like fiction and more like a mirror.

i don’t think plath meant for this to be a queer book but honestly… sometimes queerness is in the ache. in the loneliness. in the refusal to perform. and in the quiet hope that there might be a version of life where you get to feel real.

quite literally throwing all of my perfectionistic tendencies out the door in an effort to get a little more creative, a little more playful, and a little more open bc nothing really is that serious (:

i began the artists way a while back to help me with my photography, but i realized somewhere along the way that honoring the creative in me expands beyond just my business.

taking up space! taking up space! this has literally always been one of my biggest problems bc i never want to be too much, but fear playing small at the same time and that has kept me in a perfectionistic cycle of questioning myself.

so if you were to ask me what my goal for this summer is…… well i’d tell you it’s to be MESSY, messy af, and unafraid to be a silly little human making mistakes! and instead of demonizing myself for what i feel i lack, i’m leaning more into acknowledging the parts of me i admire — my vulnerability. my sensitivity. my effort. my intuition.

so cheers to making my instagram casual again bc being mysterious and nonchalant is seriously overrated. by @azariaferrer
