Star trails reflect Earthโ€™s rotation, or spin, around its axis. The Earth makes a complete rotation relative to the backdrop stars in a period of about 23 hours and 56 minutes. So, as seen from Earth, all the stars go full circle and return to the same place in the sky after this period of time. This revolution with respect to the stars is what astronomers call a ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ญ ๐˜ฅ๐˜ข๐˜บ.โ€‰
โ€‰
How do you photograph star trails? You need a tripod, and a camera that can take long exposures. You can do multiple shots of 30, 70 or 90 seconds at a low ISO (depending on your exposure time).โ€‰
โ€‰
Use ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ซ๐’๐ญ๐š๐— -a free software, that allows you to blend all your shots and create a beautiful circumpolar image! โ€‰

August Milky Way in a dark sky at Mendocino Magic. ๐Ÿช„

โ€‰I havenโ€™t done much Milky Way photography this year. My Nikon really misses me. Iโ€™ve been busy with other projects. Also, the southwest skies have been covered for the most around the new moon during the summer months. Hopefully the fall and winter will be clear for some astro ๐Ÿ”ญ

40 single exposure images stacked with starry landscape stacker to bring out the colors of the nebulosity.

Captured as a wide field image, I am so happy how sharp and detailed it turned out! Images with HaO and SO filters, I did a SHO palette combination.โ€‰ Captured with ZWO 2600 MC PRO using @svbony SV535 f2.8, this lens continues to impress me!

A beautiful place at night. I have never needed to bump my ISO to more than 6500, but here, shooting at 13 secs only, itโ€™s need it. The sky is so dark and pristine, it was hard as single exposure, and I didnโ€™t have my tracker.โ€‰ You can also see the Triangulum Galaxy.

๐–๐ข๐๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ž๐ฅ๐ ๐ฏ๐ข๐ž๐ฐ!โ€‰ Elephant Trunk, Flaying Bat and a little Squid Nebula.
โ€‰
The Flying Bat Nebula (Sh2-129) and the Elephantโ€™s Trunk Nebula (IC 1396) are two sprawling emission nebulae in the constellation Cepheus. Located roughly 2,400 to 3,000 light-years away.

This wide-field image captures both the Elephant Trunk Nebula and the Flying Bat Nebula in one photo. If you look closely you can see a faint Squid nebula inside the wings of the bat.

These colorful clouds of gas and dust are where new stars are being born. The Elephant Trunk looks like a giant cosmic trunk reaching into space, while the Flying Bat stretches its wings across space.

โ€‰just 120 mins of imaging under dark sky. Short attention span. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

โœจ The Cygnus Loop โœจโ€‰๐Ÿ”ญ
โ€‰
What looks like a colorful cloud in space is actually the remains of a giant star that exploded thousands of years ago. The glowing wisps are created as the explosion continues to spread through space, lighting up the surrounding gas. Located about 2,400 light-years from Earth, the Cygnus Loop is a beautiful reminder that even the end of a starโ€™s life can create something truly spectacular. ๐ŸŒŒโœจโ€‰

The Milky Way often appears bluer near cities because artificial lights scatter through the atmosphere. This light pollution washes out the faint colors of the galaxy, leaving behind the brighter blue light. The Milky Way is still there -but the cityโ€™s glow changes how we see it.โ€‰ This photo was taken just 45 miles outside of Phoenix.

I found a secluded spot outside the city where I spent the night capturing the Milky Way and doing some astro imaging last month.โ€‰ Peaceful time to decompress and enjoy a windy and quiet summer night.
โ€‰
๐๐จ๐ญ๐ž: The light in the fire ring was artificial. Please follow current fire restrictions in Arizona.โ€‰
