The California afternoon was winding down. I was stretched out on top of the bed, pillows behind me, with my rolling tray sitting in front of me. My Dalmatian was laid out to my right, half asleep and occasionally lifting his head whenever I moved.

My phone was propped in my hand on FaceTime. Mr. Echelon had only left the night before to handle some business, but he was wrapping things up and would be home soon.

Mr. Echelon: “Hey, baby.”

Me: “Hey.”

I smiled at the screen, still focused on what I was doing.

Mr. Echelon: “What you doing?”

Me: “Rolling up.”

Mr. Echelon: “Of course.”

I laughed quietly.

Me: “You almost done?”

Mr. Echelon: “Yeah. Shouldn’t be too much longer.”

Me: “Okay.”

He watched me for a second through the screen.

Mr. Echelon: “You miss me?”

I looked at him and smiled.

Me: “A little.”

Mr. Echelon: “Mhm. I miss you too.”

My Dalmatian shifted beside me, and I reached over to scratch his head.

Me: “He’s been right here all day.”

Mr. Echelon: “Tell him I’m coming home.”

Me: “He knows.”

He smiled.

Mr. Echelon: “Love you.”

Me: “Love you too.”

I went back to my tray, still smiling at the phone while he finished up what he needed to do. It felt less like being apart and more like waiting for him to walk through the door.

I stood in front of the elevator mirror, phone in hand, catching a quick picture of myself before heading out for the night.

I was so focused on getting the picture that I didn’t notice him walking toward me at first.

Then I caught him in the reflection.

He was slowly making his way toward me, that familiar smile on his face, with one hand tucked behind his back, looking at him curiously.

“What are you hiding?”

He just smiled and kept walking closer.

I laughed, still watching him as he stopped right in front of me. His eyes met mine, and for a second, neither of us said a word.

Then he brought his hand from behind his back.

A beautiful bouquet of roses.

I looked at the flowers, then back at him, completely caught off guard.

“These are for me?”

He smiled.

“Of course.”

I took the roses from him, trying to hide the smile spreading across my face.

I wasn’t expecting the flowers.

I wasn’t expecting the surprise.

But standing there in that elevator, looking into his eyes with those roses in my hands, I knew this was going to be one of those nights I’d remember. 💙🌹

So, What Are We Doing Today?” 🛍️✨

“Honestly? I don’t know yet.”

That was the plan. No schedule, no destination, just getting dressed and seeing where the day took me.

I grabbed my bag, checked myself one more time in the mirror, and headed out. I told myself I wasn’t going to spend much today… which, looking back, was probably the first lie I told myself. 😂

A little browsing turned into “let me just look at this,” and somehow “just looking” turned into a few bags in my hand.

But I wasn’t rushing. I took my time, enjoyed the atmosphere, stopped for a little break, and let myself actually enjoy the day.

Maybe that’s what I needed a day with no expectations, no rushing around, and nothing to do except enjoy being me.

And honestly?

I’d do it all over again tomorrow. 🤎

AFTER HOURS.”

Somewhere between the city lights and my own little world, I remembered that I don’t have to explain the woman I’m becoming.

I’ve learned to romanticize the quiet moments the late nights, the little luxuries, the music playing in the background, and the confidence that comes from knowing exactly who I am.

No rush.
No pressure.
No permission needed.

Just me, my energy, and a life that looks better when I stop trying to make it make sense to everybody else.

Soft where I want to be.
Private when I need to be.
Unbothered when I choose to be.
