Ten moments from an unforgettable evening celebrating Welsh writing in New York a week ago.

Writers Emily White, Azuka Oforka and Katie Payne sharing the room with Matthew Rhys, Rachel Christopher, Harrison Tipping and Bartlett Sher — alongside friends, collaborators and supporters of Welsh theatre from both sides of the Atlantic.

The conversations, the laughter, the readings and the connections.

Here's to taking Welsh stories to the world.

We said we wanted to take Wales to the world... and we meant it.

Starting with NYC26.

Matthew Rhys re-joined WNT for the evening as part of our WNT NYC26 Company of incredible actors, bringing our new Welsh stories to life.

Watching the faces of our writers light up as their words filled the British Consulate General in Manhattan was pure joy. We’ll never forget it.

Writers. Actors. Creatives.

Renew your passports.

We're taking Welsh theatre international and we're only just getting started.

Dywedon ni ein bod ni eisiau mynd â Chymru i’r byd... ac roedden ni’n bod o ddifri.

Gan ddechrau gyda NYC26.

Ymunodd Matthew Rhys â WNT eto am y noson fel rhan o’n Cwmni WNT NYC26 llawn actorion anhygoel, gan ddod â’n straeon Cymreig newydd yn fyw.

Roedd gweld wynebau ein ysgrifennwyr yn goleuo wrth i’w geiriau lenwi Swyddfa Prif Gonswl Prydain ym Manhattan yn brofiad o lawenydd pur. Fyddwn ni byth yn ei anghofio.

Awduron. Actorion. Creadigolwyr.

Adnewyddwch eich pasborts.

Rydyn ni’n mynd â theatr Cymreig i’r byd rhyngwladol — a dim ond megis dechrau ydyn ni. by @azukaoforka

It’s still sinking in that I got to take my writing all the way to New York City with the Welsh National Theatre and hear it brought to life at the British Consulate in Manhattan by a world-class cast. Such a pinch-me dream of an opportunity, one I’m incredibly grateful to have shared alongside some brilliant Welsh creatives and writers @katie_e_payne #EmilyWhite. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🗽 Welsh Voices. New York City.

What a night celebrating the extraordinary talent coming out of Wales.

We were incredibly proud to take three brilliant Welsh writers — Emily White, Azuka Oforka and Katie Payne — to New York, sharing their work as part of the US–Wales Cultural Partnerships Reception at the British Consulate General in Manhattan.

Extracts from their plays were brought to life by an outstanding cast including Matthew Rhys, Rachel Christopher and Harrison Tipping, putting Welsh new writing in front of an international audience.

It was a chance to celebrate stories rooted in Welsh identity, class, place and experience, and to show the ambition, originality and talent of artists working in Wales today.

We were also delighted to share the evening with our friends at Welsh National Opera and Theatr Cymru— a brilliant showcase of creativity from our small but mighty nation.

A huge diolch to British Council Wales for supporting the trip, to Emily, Azuka and Katie for taking their words across the pond, and to the actors who gave those words a voice.

From Wales to New York — and, we hope, far beyond. 🌎

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🗽 Lleisiau Cymraeg. Efrog Newydd.
Am noson arbennig yn dathlu’r dalent eithriadol sy’n dod o Gymru.

Roeddem yn hynod falch o fynd ag Emily White, Azuka Oforka a Katie Payne i Efrog Newydd i rannu eu gwaith fel rhan o Dderbyniad Partneriaethau Diwylliannol UDA–Cymru yng Nghonswliaeth Gyffredinol Prydain ym Manhattan.

Daeth darnau o’u gwaith yn fyw drwy berfformiadau gan Matthew Rhys, Rachel Christopher a Harrison Tipping, gan gyflwyno gwaith newydd o Gymru i gynulleidfa ryngwladol.

Roedd yn gyfle i ddathlu straeon sydd wedi’u gwreiddio mewn hunaniaeth, dosbarth, lle a phrofiad Cymreig, ac i ddangos uchelgais, gwreiddioldeb a thalent artistiaid Cymru.

Roedd yn bleser rhannu’r noson gyda’n ffrindiau yn Welsh National Opera a Theatr Cymru, gan ddangos creadigrwydd ein cenedl fach ond nerthol.

Diolch enfawr i British Council Wales am gefnogi’r daith, ac i Emily, Azuka, Katie a’r actorion am ddod â’r geiriau hynny yn fyw.

O Gymru i Efrog Newydd — ac, rydym yn gobeithio, ymhell y tu hwnt. 🌎 by @azukaoforka
