Mini #5 – Deathleaper

With every piece I want to learn something new.
For this one, I experimented with a 3D epoxy resin base to create a toxic, immersive environment around the Deathleaper.

Definitely the most challenging mini so far, for me it was even more difficult than Roboute, but super happy with the end result.

On to the next.

Mini #4 done: Winged Tyranid Prime

My first Tyranid ever, and I went all in to test Contrast paints, 100% brushwork. I had a blast experimenting with speed + texture, and I’m really happy with how the colors came together, i thinl they are much fun to paint than marines, and much quicker to get a nice result.

I like this scheme so much that I’m planning to use it again for the Deathleaper and my Norn Emissary next and maybe for the whole army.

Tyranid painters: any tips for pushing Contrast even further on big bugs (especially claws, carapace highlights, or slime effects?

3rd Mini! Ultramarines Terminator.

Before jumping into more complex heroes, I wanted to paint something simple and use my airbrush for the first time, just to get comfortable and learn the basics. I’m really happy with how it turned out.

The smooth gradients and lighting are more or less what I was hoping to achieve, and it feels like a big step forward for batch painting my Ultramarines Army.

Back to the hobby after 20 years… and it feels SO good. 🖌️🔥

For my second miniature after all this time, I wanted a real challenge to get properly hookedu again, and what better than Roboute Guilliman…

It took me around 23 hours from start to finish, and honestly? I enjoyed every single minute. Can’t wait to keep improving and bring more characters to life.

If you paint too:
What should I tackle next, another character, a squad, or something completely different? (I’m thinking in Norn Emissary)
And if you’re a Guilliman fan… rate the paint job 1 to 10 Maybe a 7?

Some pics of my first mini after getting back into the hobby: Marneus Calgar

I chose him because he’s always been one of my favourite characters in the WH universe and after his absolutely brutal appearance in Space Marine 2, he became the one I wanted to paint the most to start again.

Looking at him now, there are so many things I’d love to improve. After painting Guilliman, I learned a ton, and I can already see how much I’ve progressed in the first weeks since Calgar.

Honestly? I like him so much that I’m pretty sure that once I finish my Ultramarines army, I’ll come back and paint a new better Calgar as a proper “then vs now” milestone.
