I’m beyond excited to announce that I’ll be presenting a TIFF 2026 delegation featuring nine incredible, badass Canadian professionals who I’ve had the opportunity to work with, learn from, and watch grow. This delegation is about more than attending a festival. It’s about creating access, building connections, navigating new spaces, and bringing big dreams to the forefront. I’m so proud to give these nine talented individuals an opportunity to experience TIFF from a new perspective, connect with industry professionals, and take up space in rooms they absolutely deserve to be in. One of the most important dialogues I wanted to attend at TIFF. 🎬 TIFF created such an incredible space for a candid, honest conversation about producing, the realities of financing, navigating the industry, building projects, and the often-unseen work required to actually get a film across the finish line. As producers, we need more spaces like this. Spaces where we can come together, take off the industry mask, and be real and frank about what it takes to navigate today’s film landscape. Because let’s be clear: the producer is foundational to the project. We are often the financial anchor, holding the financial centre of the production together while simultaneously navigating development, financing, partnerships, contracts, teams, timelines, deliverables, and the countless moving pieces that turn an idea into a finished piece of work. A great story is only the beginning. Someone has to build the structure, secure the resources, manage the risk, and keep the project moving. And that’s why conversations like this matter. I left this conversation feeling extremely seen, validated, and renewed and reminded of just how important our role is. @tiff_net, I hope you continue creating and championing more spaces like this, because producers deserve a seat at the table and we deserve spaces where we can speak honestly about what that seat requires. For the past couple of years, I’ve had conversations with so many creatives and directors who are focused on getting their projects to Netflix, Amazon, or the “big” streamers. But I keep saying: the opportunity is also on YouTube. YouTube is creating a new generation of filmmakers who are building audiences, owning their platforms, experimenting with formats, and creating sustainable careers without waiting for permission. So it was incredibly validating to hear @ziwe one of the leading creators to successfully cross between digital and traditional media, speak about how powerful this crossover space is and why it can be such a smart path for independent creators. The industry is changing. Don’t just ask, “Who will buy my story?” Start asking, “How can I build the audience and platform for my story?” The next generation of filmmakers may not be waiting for the gatekeepers.
