Our big beautiful live oak is coming down today in anticipation of hurricane season. It’s very sad to me but last year our neighbors lanai, and indeed, his living room were destroyed by a giant tree falling on them.

Our oak is diseased, making it more prone to falling, and would crush our lanai, not to mention our pool house in the other direction if it fell that way.

Last night I dreamed about running through a forest full of live oaks and woke to the sound of chainsaws. End of an era. We have lived with us Live Oak for 12 years now. I know it’s the right thing to take it down, but I have to admit, I’m getting a bit teary eyed this morning. by @b.j.lee

This is the extent of our damage: fences down on 2 sides, carport in middle of front yard, entryway damage, lots of plants crushed by fences, pool house flooded - not too bad. We were lucky. Apparently electric came on an hour before we got home. No internet, still, however. Thank you to everyone who expressed concern! by @b.j.lee

So this happened to our neighbor - a huge sweet gum crushed his lanai & put a hole in his living room ceiling. It might just as have been us as it was right on the property line.#HurricaneMilton was a beast! by @b.j.lee
