First Language is out today~ While making this song, we brought our curiosities, our obsessions, our discontents into the studio and opened a portal, the same one every time, and watched ourselves morph and burn. We stay in the state of becoming, which is how we survive. And snacks!!! We ate lots of snacks.

.@b.lushfire grew up in Queens and now works out of Brooklyn. A Storm the Size of Four Earths is her third single and the first from a forthcoming EP. It sets a private fear of love against weather large enough to swallow the planet that watches it. She prays to be caught in Jupiter’s Red Spot, then answers the request with “Don’t promise me love.”

Been listening to Prince all morning to spend time with Johanna. She knew his entire discography front to back. She was shocked that we didn’t. What is happening to the kids. Hell in a handbasket, probably. (One of her favorite phrases.) Some memories: the way that she would tip the windshield wiper guy $20, laughing in glee during a midnight swim, when the moon was so bright that the water was grey, her green purse that held everything in it, talking about healing and trauma, fathers, mothers, scarcity, English horseback riding, her calling us ultra-leftists when we wanted to cancel everyone in 2020, the first time we saw an oil slick as kids we thought it was a rainbow. I feel lucky to have gotten to know Johanna the way I did. She had a deeply perceptive kindness she offered anyone who crossed her path. I know she’s somewhere laughing, adventuring, cracking open a can of Coke. by @b.lushfire
