Inktober 2026 no. 16: Bean Bunny.
.
“Huh, what a cute ending!”
.
Ah, the enigma that is Bean Bunny. The Muppet Show, Sesame Street and the Muppet films were my conduit of Jim Henson content as a kid, before Henson’s passing, and Bean appeared in NONE OF THOSE. So I have no context for Bean Bunny, except in retrospect. However, he has a VERY DEVOTED following; besides Lips, Bean is one of the most requested characters I get, and I have never really figured out why that is. But regardless, it’s a challenge to draw, with the many different textures, so I like doing them. Hope you like!

Inktober 2026 no. 15: Junior Gorg.
.
“Look, Ma! I caught a Fwaggle!”
.
FRAGGLE DAYS finish up with Junior — the well-meaning but terrifying Gorg youngster who’s always on the lookout for those pesky FWAGGLES who come to steal the radishes. He’s only 473! Lots of shaggy characters in the list all of a sudden. And more on the way tomorrow, as we embark on a couple of characters that don’t fit neatly into any category …

Inktober 2026 no. 14: Sprocket.
.
“Now I remember why I gave up being a barber: I had to deal with dogs like you and they were people!”
.
FRAGGLE DAYS continue, with Doc’s faithful partner Sprocket — the REAL brains behind the science. It was a tossup between Sprocket and Barkley to be this month’s canine representative, but I have a bunch of Sesame Street characters coming up later on this month, and Fraggle Rock could use another, so here we are! Sprocket is a joy to watch, with his histrionic expressiveness; some great puppeteering. Woof, woof!

Inktober 2026 no. 13: Uncle Traveling Matt.
.
“ I say pshaw and fiddle-faddle to fear.”
.
FRAGGLE DAYS ARE HERE. I drew all the main characters in year 1, so now it’s time to fill in the gaps, starting with my uncle Traveling Matt! Is he the only Muppet character named for a film compositing technique? I THINK SO. And hey, this drawing seems OK to me tonight! Everything’s coming up Millhouse. More Fraggle Rock tomorrow!

Inktober 2026 no. 12: Bobby Benson’s Baby Band.
.
“PENNSYLVANIA SIX-FIVE OH-OH-OH”
.
MUSICAL INTERLUDE ENDS with the maestro, Bobby Benson and his Baby Band. One of the more … disturbing novelty acts on The Muppet Show, Bobby is the only Muppet I can think of that smokes. He probably shouldn’t be allowed near those babies. This drawing got WAY WAY out of hand, so it’s not at all as I envisioned it when I started. But good reference photos are hard to find, so I was kind of out without a net on a lot of this, and as I said before, non-furry Muppets are easy to over-cook. Ah, well. Perhaps I’ll re-visit later.

Inktober 2026 no. 11: Marvin Suggs and his Muppaphone.
.
“And now, LADY OF SPAIN!”
.
MUSICAL INTERLUDE 4: Marvin Suggs has an irresistible sadistic glee with which he goes about his performances, and I’m HERE FOR IT. This drawing is getting somewhere I think; I’ve backed off the strict reference and started getting more loose and expressive tonight, and I feel like it’s getting my point across better than anything else so far this month. So let’s hope I can keep that up!

Inktober 2026 no. 10: Rowlf.
.
“Boy, is this piano outta tune! I love outta tune pianos.”
.
MUSICAL INTERLUDE 3: Yeah, this is not a new one; I’ve done two versions of Rowlf in the past — but you can’t talk about music and Muppets without him. Plus he’s one of my favorites, and also one of the oldest Muppets of all! The fur is a bit much here, but that’s where I’ve landed.

Inktober 2026 no. 9: Lips.
.
“Eeege uddadoes ennible... oh, yeah.”
.
MUSICAL INTERLUDE CONTINUES: it’s been surprising how many requests and inquiries I’ve had for the Electric Mayhem’s trumpet player, Lips, since I finished my last run of Muppet drawings in 2021; the guy’s got fans! This one was a really laborious drawing, but it was a kind of zen cathartic exercise, with all the patterns and all the hair. I think it’s relatively successful, but I won’t know for sure until I look at it tomorrow.

Inktober 2026 no. 8: Nigel.
.
“Trust me, Zoot, this is a great little number.”
.
MUSICAL INTERLUDE: Orchestra conductor Nigel kicks off a series of music-related characters. Nigel didn’t have a lot of speaking parts, but one of my favorite Muppet Show sketches, “Sax and Violence”, involves Nigel discussing a musical number with sax player Zoot before Bip Bippadotta/Mahna Mahna arrives and chaos ensues. LOOK IT UP. Like Miss Piggy earlier this month, Nigel is a very subtle design that is really hard to get right. Muppets without fur are REALLY unforgiving.

Inktober 2026 no. 7: Bruno the Trash Man (and Oscar the Grouch).
.
“Ta-da-dump, ta-da-dump, ta-da-dump dump dump!”
.
Janitor days wrap up with the biggest janitor of all - BRUNO THE TRASHMAN. Caroll Spinney was truly a mad genius, and this (not-so-) little creation was one of his most under-appreciated gems. Caroll managed to control AND voice both characters at once in a lovely feat of puppeteering brilliance.

Inktober 2026 no. 6: Beauregard.
.
“What color are their hands now?”
.
I guess it’s janitor week here on B3NN3TT’s Inktober HQ. Beau is the one I bailed on twice yesterday. He’s harder to capture than one might think! This version was super loose and spontaneous compared to the other two failed versions, so I think taking a step back from the reference was what I needed. One more entry in the Janitor category tomorrow — and it’s a big one, in every sense of the word. See you then!

Inktober 2026 no. 5: George the Janitor.
.
“I don’t love this mop. It’s a good mop... it’s useful. It’s... cute.”
.
Rough night; I finally finished this after 2 failed attempts, so this one took a lot of ink and paper to get to the finish line. George is a riot, I love this guy. Maybe a pretty deep cut for some of you, as George was replaced midway through the Muppet Show series so he only appears in the first couple of seasons. He always makes me think of Harvey Pekar though.
