I wanted to share a few personal thoughts about Proper Order. There’s so much happening that we’re proud of and excited about, but some of the things written about us lately have been harder to take than I expected.

Running a small hospitality business comes with plenty of difficulties. We also understand that more popularity brings more scrutiny. But the AI-written essays about our space have been difficult to shake off.

The new space is a huge source of pride for me and Niall. It took us almost ten years to get here. I understand why people miss the old Proper Order – we have lovely memories of it too. But there was barely room for staff to work, hardly anywhere to sit, and customers had to queue outside in the rain and wind. Moving was something we needed to do.

Behind the scenes, there are just two of us keeping everything going. We spend months developing ideas and countless hours testing drinks, pushing ourselves outside our comfort zone to bring things to the table that you don’t often find in Ireland. There’s so much work and care behind what people see.

People are allowed to have preferences, and we’re open to feedback. I just wish there was a little more understanding of what it took to get here. It hurts to see something we’re so proud of repeatedly reduced to our design choices and another discussion about laptops.

We don’t expect Proper Order to be everyone’s favourite place. But for us, it represents almost ten years of work, sacrifices and care. We’re proud of what we’ve built, and I hope people can see the heart that still goes into it every day. by @ba.brew.shka

Nine years married today. 💍

People often talk about the happy moments, but the truth is that marriage is built on the ordinary days and the difficult ones. It takes patience (lots of it in our case), forgiveness, communication, and willingness to keep showing up for each other. Nine years later, we’re still far from perfect—and that’s okay.

We’ve had our share of ups and downs, and we certainly haven’t always gotten it right. But every challenge has taught us something, even if it didn’t feel that way at the time.
